Job Description
BAE Systems is seeking a Machinist to support at its site in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. In this role, the Machinist Sets up and operates a variety of machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, planers, and precision grinders to make metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions. Interprets blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications: determines sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup: uses a variety of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments: makes standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds: measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining: fits and assembles precision parts into mechanical equipment and determines material, parts, and equipment required. May modify numerically controlled programs on numerically controlled (NC) machines. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures. Typically requires completion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, drawings or specifications for assignments and performs layouts, determining sequence of operations and types of metal stock to be used
  • Sets up and operates equipment such as lathes, power mills, drills and milling machines to produce nonstandard metal parts and equipment. Determines and prepares any jigs or special attachments as needed
  • Uses micrometers, calipers and other precision measuring tools to ensure products meet in-process and final tolerances
  • Positions and secures workpiece in holding device and uses hand tools such as files, scrapers and wrenches to fit and assemble parts to assemblies and mechanisms
  • Operates mechanism or machine, observes operation, or tests with inspection equipment to diagnose malfunction or to test repaired machine
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • High School Diploma or GED and 2 year(s) related experience
  • Must be able to read and interpret close tolerance manufacturing drawings
  • Must have experience using a variety of machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, planers, and precision grinders to make metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions

Full-Time Salary Range: $44640 - $71460

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
