Body Shop Technician


Position Summary

Thoroughly repairs damaged body parts and bodies of vehicles in accordance with Swift Recon time specifications and standards.


Position Duties and Responsibilities

  • Complete dis-assembly of vehicle in order to assist in assessing damage to prepare a 100% Repair Plan.
  • Ensures all needed repairs are identified to eliminate supplements and minimize repair time.
  • Removes upholstery, accessories, electrical and hydraulic window and seat operating equipment and trim to gain access to the damaged area of the vehicle if needed.
  • Performs work as outlined on repair orders.
  • Maintains an open line of communication with the production manager expressing any changes in repair plan.
  • Maintains an initial part cart inventory and maintains part cart organized to eliminate potential part damage.
  • Mends damaged body by hammering out or filling in dents and welding broken parts, ensure all gaps and fits are to body shop standards.
  • Removes damaged fenders, panels and grills and bolts or weld replacements parts in position and reassemble after parts are painted
  • Repair or replace defective parts.
  • Finishes repaired area with 180 grits before sending through the refinishing process.
  • Participates in regularly scheduled meetings.
  • Ability to work closely with team members and apprentices enhancing work atmosphere and production.
  • Adheres to all regulatory compliance guidelines for hazardous waste disposal.
  • Willing to learn and develop new techniques.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and organized work area.
  • Complies with company safety rules, guidelines, and standards.
  • Perform other duties as required to successfully meet the needs of Swift Recon.

Educational

  • High school diploma or equivalent and/or 1 year related experience

Position Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Under the state of Oklahoma's Unity Bill, this position is classified as a "Safety Sensitive Position" due to the job requirement of driving a vehicle.
  • Ability to operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions

Position is based in a normal shop environment. Daily activity as well as repetitive tasks involving hand and arm motion and lifting objects over 50 pounds. Must be able to push/pull parts, carts, and cars with assistance. Working environment consists of: Exposure to fumes, chemicals, dust, along with high levels of noise. Swift Recon enforces the mandatory requirement to wear personal protective equipment also known as PPE. Must have manual dexterity to operate equipment. Subject to climate changes both inside and outside the facility. Must have visual acuity to determine the accuracy and thoroughness of the work assigned.
