POSITION SUMMARY

Maintenance Mechanic's primary responsibility is to install, maintain, upgrade and fabricate machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, and other drawings. They are responsible for using hoisting and moving equipment to position unassembled equipment needing assembly. The job requires a thorough knowledge of the load-bearing capabilities of the equipment used as well as an understanding of blueprints and technical instructions. This position is accountable for the repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment at the Orange facility. Individuals in this position strive to accomplish this at minimum cost while maintaining a high degree of safety awareness.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

• Works closely with the Maintenance Supervisor and others in the Maintenance group to accomplish the goals and objectives of the department.

• Required to move, assemble and install machinery and equipment such as shafting, precision bearings, gear boxes, motors, mechanical clutches, conveyors, and tram rails, using hoists, pulleys, dollies, rollers, and trucks.

• Insert shims, adjust tension on nuts and bolts, or position parts, using hand tools and measuring instruments, to set specified clearances between moving and stationary parts.

• Align machines and equipment, using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, plumb bobs and laser alignment technique.

• Assemble and install equipment using hand tools and power tools.

• Lay out mounting holes, using measuring instruments, and drill holes with power drill.

• Replace defective parts of machine or adjust clearances and alignment of moving parts. Level bedplate and establish centerline, using straightedge, levels, and transit.

• Dismantle machines, using hammers, wrenches, crowbars, and other hand tools.

• Attach moving parts and subassemblies to basic assembly unit, using hand tools, pneumatic, electric and hydraulic power tools.

• Troubleshoots and repairs pumps, turbines, compressors and gearboxes.

• Coordinates assigned work with other Maintenance Craft groups and the Production department.

• Complies with all plant safety rules and reports all incidents and events to immediate supervision for corrective action.

• Attends all departmental safety meetings and actively supports & safety programs and implementations.

• Complies with all Lion Elastomers', procedures & practices to the Maintenance Department.

• Participates in various company and regulatory training designed to improve plant processes and/or increase unit production.

• Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance of State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS (qualifications necessary for entry into this position)

A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in an industrial environment with related on-the-job experience or Vocational Training or an associate degree in a related discipline with at least one (1) year craft industry experience is required. Prior experience must include being knowledgeable in process manufacturing, plant safety rules & regulations, Process Safety Management (PSM), environmental compliance standards, and site quality processes.

The incumbent must possess a high level of mechanical aptitude, be an effective communicator, possess basic computer competencies, and be capable & willing to work overtime and holidays, as may be required. The individual must also have the ability to work in confined spaces and from elevated areas within the plant. In addition, this individual must be able to think clearly and solve multifaceted problems in the field with personnel of various degrees of skill levels, education and training.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents must be able respond appropriately during site emergencies directed by the Site Emergency Director. The individual must be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment if required to work or visit within the manufacturing process area. This may include hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, or other equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.

Other physical requirements for this position include:


1. Be able to climb scaffolds, ladders, and stairs, at varied excessive heights.

2. Be capable of twisting, bending, stooping, kneeling and reaching motions to perform the essential functions of the job.

3. Be capable of entering and working in confined spaces, when required.

4. Capable of lifting and walking with weights approaching 100 pounds.

5. Able to perform very strenuous jobs while wearing breathing air masks, slicker suits, and other safety-related

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

6. Exposure to various temperature extremes as dictated by local climate.

7. Exposure to loud noise levels created by running equipment in the process areas.
