Experienced CNC Machinist/Programmer

Reports to: Machining Manager

PRIMARY FUNCTION

To set up and operate Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) VMC, HMC, Lathe and/or Vertical Turning Lathe (VTL) machining centers to machine metallic and nonmetallic parts. We are especially seeking a Machinist with significant programming experience.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Seeking a highly motivated, skilled, experienced CNC VMC, HMC and or lathe / VTL machinists
  • Vocational education and/or 5-10 years of experience in a Job Shop, non-production environment preferred

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Plans stock inventory by checking stock to determine amount available; anticipating needed stock.
  • Generates CNC programs by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
  • Set-up of CNC machines by installing and adjusting, tools, attachments, collets, vices, stops, and stock pushers; tramming heads.
  • Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.
  • Knowledge and use of lifting devices, overhead cranes, and fork-lift trucks.
  • Verifies settings and produces quality parts by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhering to international standards and Ahaus standards.
  • Maintains specifications by performing drilling, milling, grooving, cutting and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
  • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Machinists may be subject to the following:

You should be proficient in:

  • G-Code
  • Manual Machining Skills
  • CAD/CAM Software

Machines & technologies you'll use:

  • CNC Mill (3-4 axis VMC) (Fanuc, Mazak, Haas, Okuma, Makino)
  • CNC Lathe (2-4 axis) (Haas)
  • CNC Mill (5+ axis VMC) (Mazak)
  • Horizontal Machining Center (3-4 axis) (Okuma, Makino)
  • Vertical Lathe (Toshiba)

Salary info:

$25 - $30 / hr
