HAND THERAPIST

Responsible To: Director of Rehabilitative Services

Our Hand Therapists work closely with our hand surgeons here at Ortho Neuro creating a team approach to orthopaedic care. With this team approach, patients receive a well-rounded treatment plan specialized to them. Position Summary:


The Hand Therapist evaluates patients, plans for, and provides therapeutic interventions in a team environment. They are responsible for the communication and coordination of hand-related treatment programs with other team members, including the patient/family.

Position Responsibilities/Standards:

General

  • Attends department, clinic or company meetings as required.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment by taking appropriate actions regarding questionable findings or concerns.
  • Consistently works in a positive and cooperative manner with fellow staff members.
  • Consistently demonstrates ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs, such as reprioritizing work as necessary.
  • Attends required annual in-service programs.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of all company policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to established facility safety requirements and procedures to ensure a safe working environment. Identifies potentially unsafe situations and notifies supervisor.

Specific Duties

  • Comprehensively evaluates and develops functional, goal-driven treatment plans considering the patient’s age, education level, family support, and cultural/psychosocial issues.
  • Participates in program development, continuous improvement, and clinical education.
  • Provides comprehensive and appropriate treatment, including periodic reassessment and goal modification, patient/family education, and ongoing discharge planning.
  • Collaborates with other team members to ensure that the established treatment plan is carried out, that the patient is progressing towards discharge, and that periodic reassessment and treatment modification occurs when indicated by patient status.
  • Completes all written and electronic documentation in accordance with departmental policy and procedure for timeliness, format, and content.

Additional Duties

  • Collaborates with the team to be patient-focused, outcome-based, and family-centered.
  • Meets established departmental productivity standards.
  • Accurately completes specific departmental delegated duties in a timely manner.

Education/Experience Required:

  • Must be a graduate of an approved school of PT or OT.
  • Must have a valid PT or OT license in the state of Ohio, with hand therapy experience.
  • 2-3 years of experience in an outpatient hand therapy setting preferred.
  • Previous hand experience in diagnosing specific splinting preferred.
  • Hand therapy certification, or plans to sit for certification, desired.

Physical Requirements:

Physical requirements for the position include the ability to frequently hear and communicate orally, see up close and at a distance, read and comprehend, stand, sit, walk, reach, handle, and/or feel objects. Must be able to climb, pull, push and kneel. Maximum unassisted lift = 50 lbs. Average lift 25-50 lbs.
