Support Services Technician

Camden County Sheriff's Office

Minimum Starting Pay: $15.86 per hour

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Job Summary:

Primarily responsible for providing administrative support to the divisions within the Sheriff’s Office.

This position includes the responsibilities of creating and maintaining complex records, collecting and preparing statistical data for reports and verifying technical information for law enforcement purposes.

The Support Services Technician works within guidelines established through the chain of command. He/she is expected to apply considerable initiative, judgment and technical knowledge in assuring the agency programs, objectives and assigned projects are accomplished. These guidelines require the Support Services Technician to rely heavily upon time management capabilities and a strong work ethic to ensure effective, efficient and, when necessary, confidential operations within this position. Work may involve receipt, research and documentation of complaints from citizens of a criminal or civil nature; and, follow up with victims of various types of crimes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Must maintain confidentiality of information he/she is exposed to as a result of being assigned to the Front Office.
  • He/she must possess and maintain knowledge of Camden County Sheriff’s Office policies, procedures and practices.
  • Interpret, prepare, assemble, maintain correspondence and records and disseminate information accordingly to necessary parties.
  • Answers incoming telephone calls; takes messages and processes calls for the Sheriff; provides information to callers regarding agency operations. Greet and direct visitors to the appropriate staff.
  • Composes and types correspondence, reports, memoranda, forms, schedules and records for the Sheriff and Chief Deputy.
  • Makes daily mail run to County Complex, Post Office and distributes mail.
  • Handles criminal history and background checks and driver’s license searches for employees for employee verification purposes.
  • Enter citation information in the Records Management System (RMS) and complete ticket log and provide to Probate Court for processing.
  • Access and use a wide variety of computer hardware and software systems and maintain confidentiality of information and release only to approved parties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience and Certification Requirements:

  • High School diploma.
  • Three (3) or more years of progressively complex work experience performing clerical/secretarial work or five (5) years work experience in a law enforcement agency as a corrections officer, dispatcher, law enforcement officer or related area.

Language Skills

  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Mathematical Skills

  • Good basic mathematical skills.

Reasoning Ability

  • Must have the ability to evaluate situations, based on training/experience and policy/procedures and make good decisions.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license.

Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Personal Characteristics

  • Ability to effectively interact and communicate with a diverse population.
  • Knowledge and skills in the use of related software for use in word processing and data entry; operating a computer and standard office equipment.
  • Must possess good problem solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, be detailed oriented, type and have excellent computer skills.

Work Schedule

  • Regular schedule is based on 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday.
