JOB TITLE:          Spiritual Life Internship

DEPARTMENT:   Spiritual Life

REPORTS TO:     Campus Pastor

STATUS:              Full-time, Stipend, Exempt (Grant Funded Position), Housing and Limited Meals provided.

 

PURPOSE:

The goal of the ministry internship grant program is for students to gain ministry experience through experiential learning under the direct supervision and support of a ministry mentor. Oversee spiritual life activities on campus under the direction of the Campus Pastor seeking to build relationships with students as a means to encourage spiritual formation.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist with corporate worship: chapels, baptism, communion, preaching, music, and worship. 
  2. Preach in the chapel at least once each academic semester. 
  3. Assist in identifying volunteers to host, organize, and promote Spiritual Life ministries.
  4. Assist with the  “Pastor-in-Residence” program.
  5. Oversee “Story” chapel. Schedule speakers, reserve space and handle administrative details.  
  6. Lead and attend Bible Studies on a rotating schedule with Resident Supervisors and the Campus Pastor.
  7. Participate in and contribute to courses in Christian Ministry and Biblical Studies at the invitation of faculty members.
  8. Meet regularly with students for spiritual and pastoral care issues.
  9. Attend Spiritual Life team meetings, conferences, church retreats, staff meetings, denominational meetings, and one-on-one mentorship with the Campus Pastor.
  10. Co-Lead weekly meetings and provide spiritual and pastoral care for the Summer Student Ambassador team.
  11. Co-Lead a Discipleship Group.
  12. Assist with organizing and facilitating spiritual life events (Faith and Film, Hot Topics, Worship Nights, Community Prayer, Ignite/Re-Ignite Retreats, etc.)
  13. Co-Lead a Spring Break Ministry Service Trip.
  14. Carry out other duties as assigned.

Ministry volunteers and student workers.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. A degree in Christian Ministry is preferred
  2. Knowledge and experience with Alaska Native populations.
  3. You must be socially perceptive to be aware of others’ reactions and understand why they react the way they do.
  4. Must be able to establish and maintain constructive and cooperative interpersonal relationships.
  5. Must have the ability to identify the developmental needs of others and provide coaching and mentoring help.
  6. Must be sensitive to the needs of others, requiring a cooperative attitude and the ability to deal calmly and effectively with high-stress situations.
  7. Cultural sensitivity and cultural awareness as well as a teachable spirit.
  8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  9. Must understand and maintain the confidentiality of all information seen or heard.
  10. Must be able to work independently and show good judgment.
  11. Needs to be organized and show good time management skills.
  12. Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Song Select and have good data entry skills.
  13. Must be reliable and dependable with regular, timely attendance.
  14. Must be willing to agree to and sign a statement of Evangelical Covenant Affirmations.
  15. Must be able to pass a background check.

 

General Internship Guidelines:

  • The internships will be 40 hours a week.
  • Internship concludes in May 2025.
  • Must be between the ages of 18 and 28 years old at the acceptance of the internship.
  • College graduate preferred.
  • Interns will have 15 days off their first year, 20 days off their second year.
  • Working hours will be set by the supervisor.
  • Interns will be stipend $1150/month.
  • At the completion of the internship in May, interns who complete the entire program will receive an additional $100 for each month they participate.
  • Housing included.
  • Limited meal plan included.
  • Interns will be supervised by the directors in the area which they intern.
  • Composition and documentation of a professional development plan.
  • Most work will be on campus with some local, statewide, and national travel involved.
  • October Attendance at Murdock Trust’s annual Vision and Call internship conference.
  • September and February attendance at bi-annual CYAK young adult retreat.
  • Weekly meetings and coursework with the project advisor.
  • Must be willing to agree to and sign a statement of Evangelical Covenant Affirmations and Acknowledgement of the Covenant Affirmations and ABHE statement.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

These duties will be conducted in an office environment with limited exposure to hazardous materials. May require time out of the office and off-campus during activities. Must have adequate sight to meet the responsibilities of the job.


DRESS CODE:

Within the office, “business casual” dress is expected. Jeans are acceptable as long as they are clean and well-kept. If any questions arise regarding what is appropriate, speak with the supervisor.
