Position Title: Medical Claims/Billing Office Assistant
Job Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic and detail oriented person with a minimum of one year experience as a Medical Claims Office Assistant, preferably with experience in medical claims processing for a full-time position (Monday – Friday, 8:30am-4:00pm). This position will provide support to claims staff in managing claims, mail, telephones, and filing of and will support Supervisor and Director in routine office tasks.
This is a long-term temporary position. Location: Ossining, NY. This position is non-exempt with an hourly rate of $22.00 per hour
Responsibilities:
- Open, sort and batch/organize all claims
- Handle routine office tasks including drafting and disseminating memos, tracking data, filing documents and maintaining files to insure accurate records and support of office operations.
- Receives and screens inquiries via the telephone, mail tasks, and from visitors. Provides member benefits and claims status, Takes detailed messages for staff as needed.
- Provide administrative support duties to Claims Supervisor and Director and other staff as needed
- Order office supplies
- Cross trained to provide back-up on transfer of data from paper claims into computer software
- Cross-trained to examine and process clean medical claims
- Make calls to providers seeking additional claims information
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; some college preferred.
- 1 to 3 years documented claims processing experience preferably in a healthcare environment
- Working knowledge of Medical Terminology, ICD9/ICD10, CPT, HCPCS, ADA, HCFA/CMS-1500/UB-04 forms
- Working knowledge, compliance and understanding of HIPAA guidelines
- Knowledge and understanding of medical insurance, medical terminology and familiarity with various health claims and related correspondence to enable cross-training in claims processing.
- Dynamic, self-starter able to work in a highly accurate, independent and efficient manner
- Excellent organization and problem solving skills
- Must have effective communication and interpersonal skills (verbal, listening and written) and be able to provide excellent customer service.
- Data entry skills and experience using various software programs with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of products, particularly Outlook and Excel
