Job Overview

The Power Electronics Engineer – will design power supply products for high-end computing, datacenter, telecommunications, and industrial applications, leading the product development process from concept to introduction into high volume production. Besides New Product Introduction (NPI), other responsibilities will include resolving customer issues and sustaining existing products. This position is expected to be involved in design reviews with global R&D teams for NPI projects and customer issue discussions.

Responsibilities:

This position involves following the power supply product design and development process which includes design analysis, electrical modeling & simulations, magnetics design and optimization, schematic / bill of materials (BOM) generation, and PCB layout with emphasis on high density. Also responsible for Design for Manufacturing (DFM), prototype development, electrical characterization, design validations, qualification, safety / reliability certifications and successful introduction into high-volume production.

As a Power Electronics Engineer, you will:

  • Assist in evaluating product technical requirements
  • Design, build and optimize designs with an eye toward efficiency, density, and cost
  • Create schematics, bills of material, and supervise PCB layouts
  • Perform hands-on lab work building and debugging of prototypes
  • Perform electrical characterization per checklists, design validation, and qualification
  • Lead concept & design reviews; take schedule direction from the Project Manager
  • Collaborate with (i) firmware engineer to implement control and protection functions; (ii) magnetics engineer to design, configure, and optimize the power magnetics; and (iii) mechanical engineer to optimize thermal & mechanical performance
  • Support and assist in sustaining Product Long Lifecycle assisting & identifying alternate component attributes critical to maintaining Product Performance
  • Work with component, safety, test, & manufacturing engineers to ensure products are viable
  • Introduce products into high-volume production
  • Provide technical support for production and field issues
  • Prepare invention disclosures to protect intellectual property

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering / Power Electronics from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum of 1 year of engineering design experience in power supplies

Desired Characteristics

  • Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering / Power Electronics
  • Developing power supplies using digital control
  • Understanding of power semiconductor parameters and limitations
  • Experience in GaN devices-based converter design
  • Understanding of magnetics design for power conversion
  • Experience with advanced test and laboratory analysis tools for power electronics
  • Perform feedback loop analysis and compensation
  • Understanding of design for EMI/EMC compliance
  • Power supply circuit simulation experience (e.g., PSPICE / SIMPLIS/ SIMetrix)
  • Worst case analysis
  • Self-motivated, detail oriented, strong team player
  • Ability to prioritize and communicate in a dynamic environment
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to drive projects to completion
