Job Description

Child Care Consultant for Sioux, Lyon & Plymouth Counties. 40 hours per week, benefits included. A Bachelor’s degree is required in Early Childhood, Elementary Education with Early Child Endorsement, Child and Family Services or closely related field. Responsibilities include providing on-site or virtual consultation, practice-based coaching and technical assistance to non-registered Child Care Homes, Child Care Development Homes, Licensed Child Care Centers and Preschools. Some travel is required. Reliable transportation, proof of insurance and a valid driver’s license necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood, Elementary Education with Early Childhood Endorsement, Child and Family Services or closely related field
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide on-site or virtual consultation, practice-based coaching and technical assistance to non-registered Child Care Homes, Child Care Development Homes, Licensed Child Care Centers and Preschools.

  • Promote the use of inclusive and culturally-appropriate child care policies and services.

  • Communicate with child care providers and adjust consultation to their needs, knowledge and capability based on I-Consult strategies.

  • Meet CCR&R regional expectations and performance measures.

  • Knowledge of Iowa Department of Health and Human services (HHS) rules and regulations for Child Care Development Homes and Licensed Child Care Centers and Preschools; and assist with Registration of Child Development Homes.

  • Support child care businesses with Child Development Home, Child Care Assistance and Iowa Quality for Kids (IQ4K) components within the applications.

  • Assist and submit ChildNet Certification and incentive program applications following regional processes and procedures.

  • Report allegations of child care abuse, child neglect and non-compliance to HHS.

  • Report non-compliance with child care regulations to the Iowa Child Care Complaint Hotline.

  • Recruit new child care businesses throughout service area.

  • Responsible for increasing provider participation in quality initiatives in assigned service area including: Preservice/Orientation, ChildNet Certification, IQ4K, Early Childhood (EC) Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS), Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), Nutrition and Physical Activity Self-Assessment for Child Care (NAP SACC), Iowa Program for Infant and Toddler (PITC), Environment Rating Scales (ERS), National Accreditation, peer support groups and other quality initiatives.

  • Provide practice-based coaching that aligns with series training curricula.

  • Complete provider records, enter provider data into the CCR&R database and submit data for reports on a timely basis utilizing required data collection methods.

  • Communicate with child care providers and adjust consultation to their needs, knowledge and capability.

  • Communicate and collaborate with HHS, community partners, CCR&R statewide network and other Mid-Sioux departments.

  • Assist Child Care Consultants in other service areas as needed.

  • Complete I-Consult Level 1 and 2.

  • Achieve I-Consult Level 2 Consultant Credential.

  • Provide leadership in assigned area of expertise: infant and toddler, business development, CDA professional development; culture and linguistic, development assessments, Early Childhood-Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (EC-PBIS), emergency preparedness, and Environmental Rating Scales (ERS).

  • Attend and facilitate training as requested.

  • Attend agency and community meetings as requested.

  • Promote CCR&R services to parents, providers, legislators and community partners.

  • Provide or participate in presentations and/or fairs to educate community leaders/organizations on CCR&R services and child care issues targeting families and child care providers.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Must have valid driver’s license, insurance and reliable transportation, and maintain a good driving record.
  • Submit to a Motor Vehicle Records check before hire and annually thereafter.
  • Submit to a FBI National Criminal History Check upon employment and every four years thereafter.
  • Submit to a Department of Human Services Criminal History and a Request for Child Abuse Information Records check before hire and every two years thereafter.
  • Be able to lift up to 40 pounds, crawl on the floor and occasionally stand 4 hours at a time.
  • Must be able to complete job duties with reasonable accommodations.
