Job Description

Plans, directs, and supervises the activities of the Counseling Department. Ensures the accurate administration of the Counseling function to ensure PRH compliance.

  • Plans, directs, and supervises the activities of the Counseling Department.
  • Projects on-going management and guidance to counselors in caseload management, case documentation and counseling techniques.
  • Holds periodic case conferences.
  • Observes SST training sessions and makes recommendations for improvement.
  • May maintain an individual student caseload. 
  • Provides agency resource contacts for counselors.
  • Assists counselors in group counseling.
  • Assists in all student retention efforts as required.
  • Ensures counseling case documentation is up-to-date and available for DOL and corporate audits.  
  • Holds weekly case conferences, utilizing the services of the center Mental Health Consultant.
  • Plans and administers departmental budget.
  • Prepares and submits reports as required.
  • Participates on all required committees.
  • Ensures proper records on students’ progress, performance, etc. are maintained by the counselors.
  • Makes recommendations to the manager on all changes to policies and procedures pertaining to the Counseling Department.
  • Conducts regular meetings with department staff.
  • Analyzes data from questionnaires, interviews, group discussions, etc., to evaluate services to students and community participation in programs that service students.
  • Develops a planned orientation program for new counselors and provides for in-service training of all departmental staff as required.
  • Assesses personnel needs and works with the Human Resources department to screen and interview potential staff. Recommends promotions, transfers, and merit evaluations within the department. Conducts and prepares performance appraisals.
  • Clearly communicates and consistently models appropriate CSS and employability skills.
  • Maintains accountability of staff, students, and property.
  • Adheres to safety practices in all areas of responsibility.
  • Fosters and sustains a conducive environment at the center, ensuring it remains free from harassment, intimidation, and disrespect, thereby ensuring a safe space for both staff and students to engage in work and learning.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (including 15 semester hours of instruction in social services-related instruction) required.
  • Two years’ experience in counseling or related field required.
  • One to two years of supervisory experience.
  • Two years’ experience working with diverse population of youth required.
  • A valid driver’s license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record.
