WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?   

The Social Media Intern is a temporary, part-time position reporting to the Director of Global Engagement. This position will assist in growing our audience and increasing engagement across all of our social media platforms: Linked In, Facebook, Instagram. 

 

 During the internship, you can expect to acquire the following knowledge and skills:   

  

  • Familiarity with Marketing, Development, Community Engagement, Donor Relations, and NGO strategy development and implementation in the US and abroad. 
  • Experience using a variety of advocacy tactics. 
  • Professional development support in the form of informational interviews with staff, feedback on resume, networking opportunities, access to meetings and events, and more. 

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:    

The person filling this position will assist in advancing the goals of Global Water Center in the areas of donor relations, marketing, engagement, and communications.  The position is remote, but can be based at the Global Water Center HQ in Charleston, SC. 

 

The best candidate will be chosen from a pool of currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate students who can demonstrate that they seek to gain hands on experience in within an international non-profit organization.  

   

WHAT IS REQUIRED?    

  • Ability to commit to minimum 10-hour workweek for 10 weeks. 
  • Bachelor’s degree (or working towards one) in marketing, communications, English, or another related field. 
  • Superior verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal skills along with the ability to communicate professionally, project confidence, and command respect with a diverse group of co-workers, donors, and outside service professionals.   
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to prioritize changing workloads and overcome diverse obstacles promptly with a positive attitude, professionalism, and organization.  
  • Ability to write quickly and effectively, and ability to copy edit, sometimes under pressure. 
  • Self-starter and self-motivated. 
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, etc.), Canva, additional computer skills in Salesforce, graphic design, or related computer programs a plus. 
  • Interest or curiosity about the WASH non-profit sector. 
  • Commitment to teamwork, good interpersonal skills, can-do positive attitude, and professional etiquette. 
  • Willingness to be hands-on in a role that is demanding and requires the ability to learn quickly and be self-motivated.  
  • Model the Global Water Center’s core values of Love, Excellence, and Integrity and work with donors, investors, member organizations, colleagues, vendors, and the public in a spirit of humility and generosity.  

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:    

  • Shape strategy for increasing engagement on our social media platforms: Linked In, Instagram and Facebook. 
  • Create social media posts. 
  • Interact with key partners on social media to increase collaboration and connection. 
  • Increase awareness of company goals and mission to as wide an audience as possible. 
  • Create a Linked In pod that connects us with other WASH organizations with the shared goal of increasing each organization’s reach. 
  • Assist with launching a Linked In newsletter. 
  • Submittal of all work assignments within determined deadlines. 
  • Other duties as desired or assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:   

  • Ability to safely lift a minimum of 35 lbs.  
  • Ability to sit for extended periods, stand, walk, type, carry, kneel, ascend, and descend stairs, and bend.   
  • Ability to work primarily indoors with frequent work outdoors in multiple types of weather / environmental conditions.  
  • Ability to work outside the normal Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm workweek if needed.  
  • Ability to travel as needed.
