Commercial Roofing Foreman Qualifications


  • Experience in a Foreman/leadership position in the commercial roofing industry
  • Willingness to consistently learn and grow as a leader through both on-the-job situations and formal training (we know everyone has room for growth, so we're excited to give people development opportunities for Foreman Responsibilities where you might have less experience!)
  • Enthusiasm for working outside in the elements and being physically active
  • Ability to troubleshoot, problem solve, and think outside-the-box
  • Knowledge of commercial roofing tools, machines, and materials commonly used
  • Ability to look at blueprints, projects specifications, safety documentation and guidelines, and digital forms of communication for application during the roofing system installation process (not required, strongly preferred)
  • Must be an effective leader (communicate, create a great team, inspire, motivate, focus on customers, innovate/work differently, have a goal/vision, have a written plan)
  • Ability to recognize strengths of team members and place them appropriately on job sites
  • Ability to manage a flexible 40+ hour/week schedule
  • Proficient with using technology such as smartphones, tablets, and online platforms like email, cloud storage systems, and online reporting/documentation tools
  • Have a willingness to learn and constantly improve yourself as a commercial roofing professional
  • Knowledge and experience with multiple types of commercial roofing systems (required)
  • Experience using roofing system application tools (required)
  • Experience with start to finish phases of commercial roofing installation and various commercial roofing systems (strongly preferred)
  • OSHA Certification (preferred)


Commercial Roofing Foreman Responsibilities


  • Focus on enforcing and coordinating daily safety measures.  Safety focus areas include things like: Fall Protection, PPE, SDS, rescue plans, loading and receiving of materials, flagging, Crystalline Silica, keeping tools in working order, Personal Protective Equipment is being utilized correctly, documentation of safety issues, etc.
  • Exercise a high level of communication and documentation.  This is an area that is very important that cannot be overlooked by the Foreman.  Daily communication between you and the project's Superintendent is required.  As a Foreman, you will handle several calls throughout the day.  You will be responsible for taking pictures of areas of concern, making sure to attach pictures to email chains to include Superintendent Manager, your Superintendent and whomever else needs to be involved to discuss areas of concerns. 
  • Take an active role in managing crews and quality.  This will be an area of building relationships with all individuals and working together as a team.  Work with the project's Superintendent to monitor Quality.  Work with Benton Roofing Superintendent daily to help establish and prioritize daily goals for on-site crews, troubleshoot issues negatively impacting production progress, exercise forethought to plan for upcoming phases of the project.
  • Assist with coordinating and participating in Weekly Subcontractor Meetings.  Weekly sub meetings are a place to voice your decisions/opinions and understand how the project is moving along.  Shadow your Superintendent through LISTENING and taking notes, including hearing from all trades so you better understand how a building is built and scheduled.
  • Maintain knowledge of commercial roofing tools, machines, and materials commonly used
  • Over time in this role, eventually be able to to look at blueprints, projects specifications, safety documentation and guidelines, and digital forms of communication for application during the roofing system installation process
  • Must be an effective leader (communicate, create a great team, inspire, motivate, focus on customers, innovate/work differently, have a goal/vision, have a written plan)
  • Ability to recognize strengths of Team Members and place them appropriately on job sites
  • Be proficient with using technology such as smartphones, tablets, and online platforms like email, cloud storage systems, and online reporting/documentation tools; always ask questions if you run into issues using these tools
  • Have a willingness to learn and constantly improve yourself as a commercial roofing professional
  • Maintain any necessary OSHA Certification(s)
  • Serve as a substitute communicator between clients (ex. Owner/GC) and Benton Roofing Team (i.e., Superintendent and/or PM/Estimator); when/if Superintendent is unavailable, communicate with clients by answering questions involving things like coordinating subcontracted or Benton Roofing Crews, ensuring project deadlines are met, customers are kept in the loop/satisfied, and safety requirements are adhered to (required: work with Benton Roofing Team to get answers you do not readily know the answers to and promptly follow back up with clients).
  • Identify problem areas, successfully oversee the type and quantity of materials being installed, be heavily involved in the detail installation of roofing system
  • Always prioritize leaks or water issues during installation (tie-ins, drains, flashing, etc.)
  • Demonstrate top-notch communication through things like required Daily Reports, required Quality Assurance & Quality Control reports
  • Follow and implement company/client rules, regulations, and guidelines 100%
  • Always maintain a professional appearance, which includes wearing Benton Roofing company polos at all times possible 
  • Have integrity and take great pride in your work
  • Develop a positive workplace environment and motivation for all Team Members
  • ALWAYS ask questions when you don't know the answer or need help from our Team!
