Job Description
POSITION TITLE: Pharmacy Technician
DEPARTMENT: Pharmacy
NATURE OF POSITION:
To provide technical support of the provision of pharmaceutical services under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school graduate
Technical training or equivalent experience in a pharmacy
Technician permit from the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy
Must be at least 18 years of age
CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt
RESPONSIBLE TO: Pharmacy Director/Pharmacist on duty
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Communicate clearly and effectively with physicians, co-workers, patients and the public.
Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers.
Uphold and abide by patient confidentiality policies and procedures.
Actively participate in agency-sponsored staff training events (Safety instruction, evacuation drills, OSHA training, etc.)
Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to adapt to organizational needs and demonstrates a positive attitude.
Enter data from a physician’s orders into a computer.
Prepare dosage units for pharmacist review from prescriber’s orders, which may include oral and topical medications.
Label medications after preparation including appropriate accessory labels as well as expiration date and lot number when applicable.
Ensure that all medication preparation activities are verified by pharmacist.
Check for expired medications.
Stocking of supplies.
Customer service, telephone etiquette, giving name, title, and department.
Filing of Rx records.
Maintains professional appearance and follows established dress code.
Performs other duties incidental to the work described herein.
