Position Summary

Working under the guidance of the Medical Director and Laboratory Technologists/Technicians, the Lab Assistant performs specimen collection and specimen processing. 

Performs limited laboratory procedures, including processing specimens, waived testing, instrument front loading, microbiology specimen set up and instrument maintenance.  Performs a variety of venipuncture and skin puncture techniques involved in collection of blood specimens from patients for laboratory procedures used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

Answers telephone and takes messages.  Assist with keeping Laboratory clean and well stocked.  Inventories supplies and maintains adequate department supplies. Rotates stock and monitors expiration dates.  Processes Send out specimens to reference lab and reference lab MISC send out reports when returned.

Required Education: 

High School Graduate or GED with previous Phlebotomy training and experience

Required Certification: 

Phlebotomy certification is preferred

BLS is required within 30 days of hire

 Other:

Must have training commensurate with phlebotomy certification approved by Lab Director or Assistant Lab Director

Six (6) months phlebotomy experience in the health care field is preferred.
