This senior position manages a group of Credit Portfolio Managers to support the Wholesale Bank's efforts in delivering credit solutions through: underwriting, portfolio management, deal team management, and internal and external client interaction. The position will manage a team with differing skill sets and abilities and will support all aspects of the bank's independent underwriting and portfolio management requirements.
Position Accountabilities
- Coach and train team to include organizing or leading development programs, assigning and reviewing work as appropriate.
- Responsible for annual Performance Evaluations, merit increases, assisting in establishing individual goals, and identifying training needs and opportunities for growth.
- Serve as a senior mentor for fellow CPM Team Leads
- Manage all aspects of underwriting and portfolio management functions, including reporting, identifying issues and coordinating the appropriate response, and holding teammates accountable for deliverables.
- Review team's deliverables to ensure adherence to best practices and processes and to identify opportunities for development.
- Maintain a strong underwriting and credit skill set to ensure continuous improvement in managed teammates.
- May be asked to directly support any aspect of a credit request or portfolio management requirement, from time to time, to address internal or external priorities.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for the assigned portfolio group and partner with stakeholders across the institution to meet priorities.
- Participate in or lead special projects related to the credit portfolio management function.
- Substitute for Director of Portfolio Management, as related to coverage, special projects, meetings, and initiatives on an as-needed basis
- Adhere to all applicable laws and regulations governing bank operations, including compliance with Atlantic Union Bankshares' BSA/AML Policy and Procedures.
Organizational Relationship
This position reports to the Head of Wholesale Credit Portfolio Management within Wholesale Banking
Position Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance and seven or more years of experience in portfolio management in a commercial lending environment.
- Three or more years of management experience
- Well-Developed and proven strategic management skills
- Demonstrated project management capabilities
- Demonstrated leadership abilities
Knowledge & Skills
- Experience across multiple lines of business, including but not limited to Commercial & Industrial, real estate development and builder lines, service, retail, commercial real estate, religious organizations and government.
- Extensive knowledge of commercial credit and lending concepts, Loan Policy, practices, and regulations
- Ability to evaluate talent, conduct interviews, hire and onboard new teammates
- Ability to coach teammates in deal structuring, portfolio maintenance, modifications and problem resolution
- Ability to counsel, coach, mentor, and implement performance improvement plans, as necessary.
- Advanced written and analytical skills to encompass the ability to review, analyze, and provide constructive feedback on Credit Approvals and Memos.
- Consistently demonstrates the ability to make complex decisions and sound business judgments regarding business and lending activities- yes
- Skilled in the understanding of spreading and analysis of financial statements, tax returns and cash flows of commercial & industrial companies, or commercial & residential real estate companies (as applicable)
- Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills
- Expert PC proficiency with Word and Excel, including the use of Bank systems such as Ncino, Horizon, etc.
- Abreast of current conditions, events of significance and emerging trends within respective LOB/sector with the ability to research, and/or direct teammates to, industry sources needed for credit evaluations.
- Strong organization skills with the ability to self-manage individual and team work flow to meet deadlines and strategic initiatives including managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Experienced in conflict management and resolution
- Capable of working across lines of business and building relationships across Bank departments, to leverage internal subject matter expertise to achieve strategic initiatives
