Position Summary:

This individual is responsible for working with internal and external customers to identify patients appropriate for admission to the Behavioral Health Unit. The individual is responsible for conducting a crisis assessment as identified in the essential job specific functions. Coordinates utilization management reviews for all assigned inpatient,follows patients throughout the continuum of care and ensures optimum utilization of resources, service delivery and compliance with external review agencies. Obtains authorizations for services, coordinates peer-to-peer reviews for assigned caseload. Understands medical necessity criteria and faciliates accurate and timely documentation to support advocacy of services.  Coordinates closely with Provider, Nursing, and Clinical Services.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current RN licensure in the state of Oregon or License Certified Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Oregon required
  • Experience in either adult or geriatric psychiatric program or Medical Surgical Program preferred
  • Minimum one year experience in Utilization Management preferred and/or intake/admissions coordination for a psychiatric or similar program preferred
  • Obtain BLS certification within three months of hire and maintain as current
  • De-escalation training within ninety days of hire and maintain as current

Job Functions:

    • Gathers and organizes referral documents.
    • Presents appropriate referrals to provider for consideration of admission and assures all pre-admission steps are completed if admitted.
    • Maintains unit referral logs. Other duties as assigned.
    • Obtains prior auth as appropriate and then works with patients insurance to continue to have auth throughout stay

    Work with sending facilities to assure transportation has been arranged

    • Participates in the responsible management of all departmental/hospital resources .

    Writes appeal letters as needed

    • Participates as a contributory member of the interdisciplinary team, including contributing to the wellness, safety and maintenance of the overall unit environment.
    • works with community agencies to grow and maintain a healthy collaborative working relationship

    Assists in patient throughput from within WVMC when appropriate.
