The Summer Program Commissioner oversees Instructors and Counselors. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, managing the logistics of the program to ensure efficient operation of the camp as well as supervision of its campers. The Commissioner is responsible for coordinating and overseeing all aspects of their age division, including learning programs, activities, facilities, and services. This involves collaborating with other staff members, organizing schedules, facilitating team building leadership activities, and providing guidance and support to campers, counselors, and instructors.

Requirements:

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Oversee designated age group including instructors and counselors: 1st & 2nd, 3rd & 4th, 5th & 6th, 7th & 8th.
  • Create & prepare daily lessons for instructors: STEM.
  • Assist when needed in day-to-day camp operations.
  • Infuse fun activities with biblical teachings.
  • Assist in cleaning and maintenance of camp facilities and equipment.
  • Mediate camper conflict-resolution; help campers learn how to listen to others, become more aware of their needs & learn how to communicate their thoughts & feelings in a respectful way.
  • Be aware of specific camper’s dietary restrictions/allergies, ensure that proper meals/snacks are distributed.
  • Participate in all staff meetings and training sessions to enhance communication skills and learn new techniques.
  • Maintain accurate administrative records, evaluate performance, and be an example of the success of the camp.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to work independently and to influence others both inside and outside the organization.
  • Ability to anticipate administrative needs and implement tasks.
  • Strong team player.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher).
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to relate and interact professionally with parents, campers, staff, and church family.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to speak about the organization’s work in an articulate, professional, and compelling manner.
  • Strong team management skills.
  • Ability to take and give direction, as well as meet firm timeframes and deadlines.
  • Comfortable working in a fluid, fast-paced, and collaborative environment.
  • Ability to perform sedentary work, exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of settings.
  • Must be organized, flexible, and able to effectively manage multiple tasks and responsibilities while maintaining a positive, supportive environment for campers and staff alike.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with all staff, handle conflict and disciplinary issues, and address any concerns or complaints that may arise during the program.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position’s duties are normally performed in a standard work environment based on the activity scheduled. Some physical effort is required; therefore, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. He or she may be required to walk or sit for extended periods and may be exposed to outside weather conditions, including but not limited to heat, cold, humidity, rain, and direct sunlight. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment, such as a computer keyboard, mouse, calculator, and other similar machines.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

Working conditions are dynamic. This requires the willingness to work a flexible schedule that may require occasional weekend and/or evening hours. The employee will be using his or her personal vehicle; therefore, he or she must hold a valid driver’s license in the state where he or she is based and have appropriate auto insurance as required by law. The employee needs to be able to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize work assignments, and do well under pressure. He or she must also demonstrate professionalism and integrity, take initiative, and exercise confidentiality. Finally, the employee must understand and apply all school policies and procedures, follow instructions, be detailed oriented, and have good follow-through on all projects.
