Summary/Objective

The Senior Mine Electrician supervises and participates in the safe construction, installation, modification, maintenance and repairs of electrical appliances, systems, facilities and related electronic controls of varying design or complexity.The Senior Mine Electrician will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and equipment used in mining operations, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of electrical infrastructure.


Essential Functions

1. Electrical Maintenance and Repair:

Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and machinery in accordance with safety and maintenance procedures.

Diagnose and repair electrical faults, malfunctions, and breakdowns in a timely manner to minimize downtime and production losses.

2. Equipment Installation and Commissioning:

Install, test, and commission new electrical equipment, including motors, transformers, switchgear, and distributed control systems (DCS), ensuring proper functionality and compliance with specifications.

3. Safety Compliance:

Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures while performing electrical work, including lockout/tagout procedures, arc flash safety, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.

Conduct safety inspections and audits of electrical installations and equipment to identify and mitigate potential hazards.

4. Electrical Troubleshooting:

Utilize diagnostic tools, schematics, and technical manuals to troubleshoot complex electrical problems and determine root causes of equipment failures.

Implement corrective actions and recommend preventive measures to prevent recurrence of electrical issues.

5. Team Leadership and Training:

Provide leadership and mentorship to junior electricians and maintenance personnel, sharing knowledge and best practices for electrical maintenance and repair.

Conduct training sessions and safety briefings on electrical systems and procedures for mine personnel as needed.

6. Documentation and Reporting:

Maintain accurate records of electrical maintenance activities, including work orders, equipment manuals, and inspection reports.

Generate reports on equipment performance, maintenance trends, and electrical reliability metrics for management review.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position manages all employees of the department and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within that department.


Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at process plant. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.


Required Education and Experience

1. High School Diploma

2. Minimum of 5 years of experience as an electrician in an industrial, process plant or mining environment, with demonstrated proficiency in electrical maintenance and repair.

3. Journeyman Electrician license or equivalent certification required.

4. Strong knowledge of electrical principles, codes, and standards, including NEC, NFPA, and IEEE regulations.

5. Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, diagrams, and blueprints.

6. Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

7. Experience with PLCs, motor control systems, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and instrumentation.


Preferred Education and Experience

1. Technical degree or certification in electrical engineering or a related field.
