Summary

The Mine Manager will oversee geologically controlled mining operations and play a key role in planning, coordinating, and executing mining activities to maximize safety, production efficiency and profitability while adhering to environmental and regulatory requirements. This position plans, organizes and directs mine engineering, surveying, and other mine activities to meet company objectives. They will also work in close collaboration with the geological team.

1.Mine Planning and Design:

Develop comprehensive mine plans and designs for narrow-veined skarn deposits, considering geological characteristics, ore grades, and mining methods.

Optimize mining layouts and sequences to maximize ore recovery and minimize dilution and ore loss.

Plans and formulates aspects of research and development proposals such as objective or purpose of the project, applications that can be used from findings, costs of the project, and equipment and human resource requirements.

Reviews and analyzes proposals submitted to determine if benefits derived and possible applications justify expenditures.

Approves and submits proposals considered feasible to management for consideration and allocation of funds or allocates funds from the department budget.

2.Operational Supervision:

Supervise and coordinate all mining activities, including drilling, blasting, loading and hauling to ensure smooth and efficient operations.

Implement best practices for ore extraction, handling, and transportation while maintaining high safety and environmental standards.

Selects, develops, trains, and supervises staff.

3.Resource Management:

Manage mining resources, including equipment, personnel, and consumables, to meet production targets within budgetary constraints.

Coordinate with maintenance and procurement teams to ensure optimal availability and utilization of mining assets.

4.Safety and Compliance:

Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and procedures.

Conduct regular safety inspections and audits, implement corrective actions as necessary, and provide safety training to mining personnel.

5.Environmental Stewardship:

Implement environmental management practices to minimize the impact of mining operations on the surrounding environment.

Develop, in conjunction with the environmental team, and oversee reclamation plans for mined-out areas to restore land to its natural state.

6.Budgeting and Reporting:

Prepare annual operating budgets and forecasts for the mining department, monitor expenditures, and identify cost-saving opportunities.

Generate regular reports on mining performance, production metrics, and key performance indicators for senior management review.

Directs the review of mine production costs and product quality, and modifies production and inventory control programs to maintain and enhance profitable operation of division.

Directs preparation of accounting records for budgetary, production efficiency or other such purposes.

Recommends budgets to senior management, including staff use, technology, facility and equipment requirements or improvements.

Negotiates contracts with consulting firms to perform research or other applicable studies or support.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position manages all employees of the mining and geological department and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within that department.

Work Environment

This job operates in a combination of office and mine processing settings.This role requires working outdoors in seasonally appropriate weather in all conditions as needed heat, cold, wind, rain, snow.

The facility contains multiple open mine pits and an operating industrial plant processing copper ore. Future underground mining is planned.


Required Education and Experience

1. Bachelor's degree in mining engineering, geological engineering, or related field.

2. Minimum of 5-7 years of experience with both contractor and owner/operator open pit and underground mining operations, with a focus on narrow-veined deposits.

3. Proven track record of successful mine planning, production management, and resource optimization.

4. A strong geological understanding.

5. Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and manage multidisciplinary teams.

6. Sound understanding of mining regulations, safety standards, and environmental requirements.

7. Proficiency in mine planning software and computer-aided design (CAD) tools.

8. Commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence.


Preferred Education and Experience

1. Advanced degree preferred.

2. 7-10 years related experience and training.

3. Previous experience with narrow veined gold or copper deposits.
