As a Maintenance Lead, you will oversee and coordinate the work of the maintenance team, ensuring efficient repairs, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance on production equipment to minimize downtime. This hands-on role demands exceptional technical skills in areas such as pneumatics, electronics, mechanics, and welding, as well as the ability to provide guidance, training, and leadership to staff. Responsibilities include scheduling maintenance activities, implementing safety improvements, analyzing equipment issues, and ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures and good manufacturing practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Make repairs or modifications to production equipment utilizing the following skills: read pneumatic, mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical schematics; utilize basic electronic test equipment (volt/ohm meter, megger and amp meter); pneumatics and electrical controls pipefitting welding and general mechanic skills.
  • Installation, checkout, and start-up of new or modified plant production equipment.
  • Perform PM's on production equipment and determine through these regular inspections, the repair and maintenance work necessary to prevent failure of production equipment.
  • Complete required documentation of PM's and other repairs on time and accurately.
  • Effectively and efficiently troubleshoot production equipment/process to make repairs and improvement and minimize downtime.
  • Effectively communicate, verbally and/or written, to supervisor/manager, customers, Dispatch and peers in a professional manner regarding equipment repairs or problems.
  • Contact vendors, research problems and potential components, order maintenance machine part,track and turn in repair parts. Elevate part issue supervisor/management quickly with potential solutions if known.
  • Assist with facts and details for formal investigations as requested.
  • Develop and implement safety related improvements jointly with your Supervisor / Manager. Maintain safety related guards and other systems on your equipment. Review and implement corrections to Lockout/Tag out procedures and drawings as required.
  • Train other mechanics as requested. Must become a qualified fellow employee (QFE) when directed by supervisor.
  • Complete all required training on time including any safety, GMP, or Alchemy related training as assigned.
  • Maintain plant tools, calibrated instruments and tool boxes in compliance with SOP.
  • Work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of employees.
  • Evaluate rejects to determine corrective action.
  • Effectively and efficiently determine equipment issues to minimize downtime and manage cost.
  • Actively communicate throughout every day with the production operators regarding equipment or process issues. Elevate those issues and work with the supervisor as directed to correct them.
  • Oversee and review performance of subordinates.
  • Provide leadership and vision to employees to accomplish their task of maximizing throughput, improving quality and customer service, and reducing operating costs.
  • Create a team environment among peers and team members. Promote employee morale and motivate through positive communications and proactive problem solving to ensure an efficient, stable and friendly work environment.
  • Execute Standard Operational Procedures (SOP) in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP. Observes workers to ensure compliance.
  • Facilitate execution of shift productivity, quality and safety against set goals. Understand yield and quality requirements and make decisions to improve and protect those requirements.
  • Review maintenance work orders or schedules to ascertain in order to plan department operations for all work order planning.
  • Plans and directs Maintenance activities, prepares that impact Production schedule and establishes production priorities to effectively manufacture within set operational standards, cost factors and quality specifications.
  • Compile required reports regarding regular inspections, safety & violations, operating efficiency, capacity and actions taken to resolve identified deficiencies.
  • Evaluates existing processes and procedures and suggest improvements. Support development and enhancements to maintenance methods.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, is required. Associate Degree or Trade School, is preferred.
  • Minimum eight years related industrial mechanical or industrial electrical experience OR completion of two year applicable technical school and three years related industrial mechanical or industrial electrical experience.
  • Must be able to use tools such as, but not limited to, voltage and amperage meters, oscilloscope, megger, hand tools, welders, sheet metal equipment, measurement tools such as callipers and micrometres.
  • Must be able to use Outlook mail. (Excel and Microsoft Word preferred).
  • Must be able to work overtime as needed (including weekends), adjust schedule quickly, and willing to be called in to meet operational demands to minimize downtime.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move heavy objects using forklifts, pallet jacks, Climbing ladders and working at heights
