JOB SUMMARY

Starbucks Assistant Managers are responsible for ensuring team members provide exceptional guest service, while achieving sales and profit margin goals. This includes ensuring guest satisfaction, driving production standards and sales, building sales skills, meeting budgets, ordering, scheduling, product knowledge, safety, and cleanliness of the department. Effective assistant managers maximize productivity and profitability by balancing sales and expenses, identifying sales opportunities and setting guest service standards. They must demonstrate knowledge of the department’s purpose and goals and have the skills to help team members achieve those goals.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • A Starbucks Assistant Manager will train, coach, and observe team members in serving guests. They will be an example to the team through your own ability to provide exceptional service.
  • Have a strong working knowledge of department equipment with the ability to teach team and others all fundamental operations of equipment, and franchise-specific training and standards.
  • A Starbucks Assistant Manager will provide input into merchandising decisions to the store and department managers.
  • Implement the marketing strategy, cross-merchandising, and sales programs throughout the department.
  • Resolve guest and team complaints in a timely and satisfactory manner.
  • Manage sales, gross profit margin, labor scheduling, and department standards.
  • Be proficient in all store technology (ordering, POS system, etc.)
  • A Starbucks Assistant Manager will work on special projects, tasks, and assignments as directed or requested.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS 

  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • A current and valid Food Handler’s Permit
  • 1-year experience in a coffee bar setting
  • Experience as a barista or barista trainer
  • Excellent guest and team service skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in all situations
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks with high attention to detail
  • Knowledge of retail environment a plus
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet the needs of the business

PHYSICAL/SENSORY DEMANDS 

Work is generally performed in a safe and comfortable store environment with the possibility of frequent exposure to hot or cold conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to grasp, push, pull, carry, stoop, twist, crouch, and reach; perform tasks requiring repetitive motion and eye, hand, and foot coordination; hear and respond to customer inquiries. Also requires standing, walking, and bending throughout the entire workday and the ability to maneuver heavy objects weighing up to 30 pounds from location to location.
