Description:

Our Staff Accountant supports a range of operational and nonprofit accounting activities. The position has a hand in AR, AP, grant billing and reporting, donation recognition support, month-end close process, payroll journal entries, and reconciliation accounting processes. A successful Staff Accountant will be detail-oriented, fond of asking questions, and loves to get things organized.


The Staff Accountant supports the Southwest Center mission of providing affirming and inclusive services to promote well-being and advance health equity for diverse communities and all those seeking compassionate care - especially people of color, LGBTQIA2S+ and Queer individuals, and those affected by HIV.


What your day will look like at Southwest Center:

Finance

  • Responsible to enter and reconcile accounts receivable and ensure invoices are allocated to the appropriate accounts
  • Responsible to enter and reconcile all payments made to the Center and ensure payments are allocated to the appropriate accounts
  • Maintain food voucher inventory and reconciliation
  • Enter and reconcile accounts payable invoices and payments and ensure payments are allocated to the appropriate accounts
  • Enter and reconcile credit card transactions
  • Produce and enter bi-weekly payroll journal entries
  • Perform month-end and year-end close processes
  • Provide assistance during the annual audit, including gathering necessary information and documents for external auditors
  • Prepare monthly documentation for grant billings
  • Assist in tracking and reporting government grants for accuracy and conformance to departmental, county, state and federal requirements
  • Assist in donor recognition support

Administrative

  • Recommend and implement processes to resolve data quality issues needed for reporting
  • Maintain all A/P and A/R files (electronically)
  • Maintain all payment reports and files (electronically)
  • Maintain support documentation for grant billings (electronically)

Requirements:

Who we're looking for:

  • You've earned a bachelor's degree in accounting or other closely related field.
  • You have two+ years of professional accounting experience.
  • You demonstrate a high level proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook).
  • You have demonstrated knowledge of GAAP principles, reporting, and audit procedures.
  • You have demonstrated cultural competency to professionally and respectfully serve the LGBTQIAS+ communities.
  • All agency employees must be able to work effectively in a mission-driven agency whose clients and staff exhibit significant diversity with respect to race, ethnicity, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, nationality, and religion.

Environmental Factors, Physical Requirements, and Compliance

  • Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/ health hazard potential.
  • Exposure to computer screens for lengthy periods of time.
  • May require evening and weekend work.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, stand; use hands, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • This position may require the employee to occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend or crawl.
  • This position must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Currently have, or be able to obtain within 90 days of employment, a valid Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Currently have, or are able to obtain within 7 days of employment, a clear TB test.
  • Currently have, or are able to obtain within 7 days of employment, a current flu vaccination.
