Job Description

Job Summary
This position is responsible for the organization and leadership of a variety of recreation activities including, but not limited to, therapeutic recreation, special events, recreation programs, and day camp programs.

Essential Functions
Essential Functions: These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position.
Organizes promotes, teaches, and conducts a variety of recreation activities, such as arts and crafts, sports and games, music, dance, drama, nature study, and special events.
Assists in organizing, promoting, and directing tournaments, shows, socials exhibits, festivals, and special events.
Drives County vehicles and transports passengers for group travel.
Supervises an assigned functional area of the center, such as gymnasium, athletic field, game room, crafts room, etc.
Coordinates and assists in conducting organizational and county-wide events.
Plans a variety of activities catering to different age groups and varying degrees of participant skills.
Assist in planning and coordinating camps, special events, and programs.
Additional Duties:
Employees in this classification may be expected to perform any related duties as required by proper authority.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of principles, techniques, methods, supplies, and equipment applicable to recreation programs.
Knowledge of good public relations practices and principles.
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Ability to lead group games and activities
Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, and other staff members.
Ability to maintain records and create reports.
Ability to supervise and develop subordinate and volunteer work.
Ability to present ideas and recommendations clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Ability to plan creative, appropriate activities for all ages.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, parents, and children.
Ability to run, walk, and jump.
Ability to lift more than 20 pounds unassisted.
Ability to see, including color, depth, and texture perception.
Ability to make fine distinctions in sound.
Ability to smell.

Working Conditions
Work is typically performed indoors and outdoors.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Two years of related experience, with some experience working with children of all ages
An equivalent combination of education and experience;
Valid Georgia drivers’ license;
First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
CDL Preferred.

Preference

Bachelor’s degree in recreation or a health-related field preferred.
