Floor Specialist


POSITION SUMMARY

• Performs cleaning and floor care in all assigned areas of the hospital to maintain an aseptic environment and prevent healthcare-associated infection using standard cleaning procedures and chemicals. Cleans, waxes, extracts, and maintains floors, carpeting, elevators, and stairwells and assists with heavy cleaning throughout the hospital and other areas as needed.

OVERVIEW

• The evaluation is to assure individual performance, departmental goals and organizational goals are aligned. It is designed to support communication between the manager and the employee. Employee perception of their own performance is very important. To maximize the benefit of this process, both the manager and the employee participate in the evaluation process.

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

• Below are those tasks, duties, and responsibilities that comprise the means of accomplishing the position’s purpose and objectives. These are critical or fundamental to the performance of the position. They are the major functions for which the person in the position is held accountable. Following are the essential functions of the position, along with the corresponding performance standards.

o Performs specifically defined floor and carpet maintenance and operation of equipment as assigned by the Supervisor/Director. Performs cleaning and maintenance of all floors in a timely manner. Operates equipment effectively, following all safety rules.

o Required to perform other Environmental Services duties which contribute to the overall professional appearance and acceptance of patient and public areas. Assist where needed as directed by team leader or manager. Accepts assignment changes with appropriate attitude and spirit of teamwork.

o Sweeps, scrubs, waxes and polishes floors. Adheres to all safety rules when sweeping, scrubbing, waxing and polishing floors. Uses proper equipment and chemicals and performs tasks in a timely manner.

o Cleans rugs, carpets, and upholstered furniture. Uses appropriate cleaning method and proper equipment. Reports any repair needs immediately and effectively cleans rugs, carpets and furniture in a timely manner.

o Dry and damp mops or machine scrubs corridors and elevator landings, according to assigned schedule. Sweeps stairwells and spot washes corridor and landing walls.Adheres to safety policy and performs tasks in a timely manner. Areas cleaned per policy.

o As needed or assigned, bonnet cleans or extracts carpeted areas. Checks equipment condition upon sign out and cleans equipment upon return, reporting any needed maintenance or repair. Uses proper chemical and technique to perform task in a timely manner. Adheres to safety policy and maintains equipment.

o Maintains all floors in a timely manner. Dry mops, damp mops floors, and runs the floor scrubber daily. Wet and dry strips floors and spray buffs floors daily. Vacuums and damp mops all of the stairways throughout the hospital daily.

o Maintains all carpets in a timely manner. Vacuums, extracts, bonnet cleans, and spot cleans all of the carpeting in the hospital on an as needed basis following all safety rules. Maintains carpet in outside buildings as assigned.

o Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards.

o Responsibly follows the hospital exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.

o Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- and intradepartmental to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives.

o Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.

o Continuously displays a "can do" attitude within the department and across departmental lines to contribute to the overall customer service program in place at hospital. Before entering a patient's room, uses scripting and addresses/greets each patient. The same practice is used when exiting a room. When working or operating cleaning equipment in common areas, ceases cleaning, turns off machines, and provides assistance to any patient or visitor who appears lost or in need of help. Acknowledges not only the patient but visiting family members/friends when servicing a room. Reports patient needs and requests to nursing staff when asked. Engages in cordial conversation with a patient/family member (when appropriate) if cleaning a floor.

o Assists in other areas when needed and assists in areas when someone is absent. Accepts assignments with appropriate attitude and teamwork. Assists where needed as directed by team leader or manager.

o High-dusts ledges, sprinkler heads and vents. Assists with routine checks or special projects on vents and sprinkler heads. Follows applicable safety rules and procedures.

o Performs other duties as assigned. Performs other duties as directed by team leader or manager in a timely manner. Responds appropriately to requests for assistance.

o Accepts other assignments with the appropriate attitude
