Maintenance Mechanic

 

Department: Manufacturing/Production

Reports to:  Supervisor

SUMMARY

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for trouble shooting, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on all equipment throughout the plant. This individual will also be responsible for minimizing down time by detecting potential mechanical and electrical problems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Performing fabrication; Reviewing electrical schematics, engineering drawings, power transmission, and pneumatics, welding and cutting
  • Performs preventive maintenance inspections and service on machines n addition to on-the-spot corrections to emergency situations
  • Thoroughly cleans machines and machine parts, removing parts and reinstalling as necessary
  • Oils and lubricates moving parts on machines to ensure effective performance
  • Records and reports damaged, worn, or broken parts
  • Orders and installs replacement parts for machines
  • Identifies the causes of unexpected breakdowns of machines
  • Repairs broken machines quickly and efficiently
  • Prepares reports documenting work performed
  • Cleans, organizes, inventories, stocks, and otherwise maintains shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies
  • Coordinates with Supervisor to schedule regular maintenance on machines
  • Collaborates with Plant Supervisor regarding new products being added and modifications that will be required
  • Makes necessary modifications and implements tests runs; confers with product manager regarding test results and makes additional alterations to machinery as required.
  • Light Industrial Electric required, Hydraulics, Power Transmissions, and Pneumatic; basic computer knowledge; previous feed mill exp desired

  • Special projects and/or other related duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS: 

  • College coursework in technical field with related coursework desired
  • Minimum of 5 years of maintenance experience in feed mill maintenance, industrial, or a production environment.
  • MS Office – Excel and Word
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize successfully

PHYSICAL & MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:  The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: Occasional use of the keyboard; frequent sitting for long periods of time; Occasional bending, squatting; Constant use of vision with frequent reading; Frequent decision making and concentration; Frequent hearing and talking, in person and on the phone; Frequent exposure to noise; Frequent reading and close up work; Occasional lifting and/or carrying up to 55 pounds; Occasional exposure to climbing elevated heights of 200ft on stairs and ladders while working in confined spaces.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in a typical outdoor environment subject to street or field noise and environment including exposure to loud equipment and machinery.  Some duties involve working in a typical temperature-controlled office environment subject to typical office noise and environment.  Position may require work outside regular business hours, including weekends, holidays and on-call; occasional travel to other company locations.
