This is a Part-Time position working up to 29 hours per week Monday - Friday. It is based out of our Red Oak Vocational Training Center, located in Red Oak, IA.


Local Delivery Light Duty Truck Driver

I. The Local Delivery Light Duty Truck Driver is responsible to the Internal Employment Team Leader.

II. This is a full-time, non-professional level position.

III. Specific Duties:

  1. Responsible for transportation of contract work using a straight truck or van.
    1. Drive agency truck to complete pickup and delivery of contracts.
    2. Load and unload truck with floor jack and forklift. Manually be able to lift up to 75 lbs. to load and unload pallets and truck. Be able to push/pull pallets onto or off of the truck.
    3. Insure truck is loaded in a safe manner. Load product on truck securely, so products will not be damaged in transit.
  2. Complete invoices and required paperwork for all contracts as needed.
  3. Drive individuals to community work site. Always operate vehicles in a safe, law-abiding manner.
  4. Complete vehicle mileage sheets and participate in vehicle maintenance and upkeep. Report vehicle maintenance and repairs as needed. Work with supervisor on scheduling necessary servicing and repairs. Inform supervisor of major repairs needed and any work completed.
  5. Supervise individual in work areas and provide training on how to complete the work.
  6. For assigned individuals, implement training objectives and methods for achieving them.
  7. Record work produced, and other production information as required.
  8. Operate and oversee the operation of equipment in a safe manner. Practice established work center safety rules.
  9. Know training procedures, tools, and equipment for community work contracts completed.
  10. Load supplies into agency vehicle, manually lifting up to 75#.
  11. Ensures incident and injury reports are completed as necessary.
  12. Handle any other duties as assigned by the Vocational Training Center Supervisor, Lead Staff, Director of Day Services, and/or Executive Director.
  13. Maintain quality control standards on work complete.
  14. Participate in agency's overall safety program.
  15. Coordinate pick-ups and deliveries for efficient use of time and space.
  16. Responsible for warehouse cleanliness and order.
  17. Responsible for good customer service anytime there is interaction with customers. This includes being perceived as professional, pleasant, and friendly by the customer.
  18. All agency staff are required to participate and cooperate with agency investigation. Confidentiality will be respected.
  19. Maintain a valid Iowa license and insurability as determined by agency insurance carrier.
  20. This position is classified as a safety sensitive employee and as such is subject to DOT and agency drug and alcohol testing policies.

IV. Essential Functions:

  1. Must be customer service oriented. Handle any situations in a professional manor.
  2. Always operate vehicles in a safe, law-abiding manner.
  3. Maintain valid Iowa CDL license for driving at least a 5-ton truck. Must be considered insurable by agency's insurance carriers. Must be able to meet the DOT physical requirements and pass the required CDL license according to DOT regulations for intra-state and out of state driving.
  4. Ability to drive the forklift for loading and unloading contracts; also be able to use floor jack to move pallets.
  1. Capability to physically assist an individual to regain balance, transfer from a sitting, standing, or prone position.
  2. Must be willing to work with others as a team to accomplish task.
  3. Be available to work whatever hours are needed.
  4. Must meet and comply with agency and Department of Transportation Drug and Alcohol testing policies and procedures.
  5. All staff/volunteers of Nishna Productions, Inc. will comply with state and federal regulations regarding HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act).
  6. Every employee/volunteer of Nishna Productions, Inc. is on a need to know basis regarding the Protected Health Information (PHI) of the individuals they serve. Therefore a security clearance level is assigned for each job description and those security levels are allowed access only to the information required to complete the duties in each position.
  7. Level One allows the least access and is intended for truck drivers, maintenance staff, redemption center workers, and volunteers.
    1. Level Two is for direct care workers including; floaters/substitutes, SCLS, Program Instructors, Day-Hab aids, Vocational Trainers, lead staff, and 1:1 staff.
    2. Level Three includes the office support staff.
    3. Level Four is for Team Leaders, supervisors, and Work Center Supervisors.
    4. Level Five is the security clearance given to Program Managers.
    5. Level Six allows access to all PHI and includes Directors/Administrators, Quality Assurance, and IT staff.
    6. Temporary clearance for PHI access can be given if staff require the access to complete extra assigned duties (i.e. filling in for another department). Maintenance personnel are given permanent access to areas where PHI is stored but they may need to enter in order to complete their duties.

V. Qualifications/Requirements:

  1. High school diploma or GED.
  2. Obtain and maintain valid CDL license. Must be considered insurable by agency carrier.
  3. Must be able to travel (in-state and out-of-state).
  4. Individual "must not have or be a carrier" of a serious infectious or communicable disease, such as but not limited to, incurable, fatal, or debilitating diseases, which cannot be eliminated or reduced by reasonable accommodation. Current example would include, but not be limited to, tuberculosis. Determination of the existence of a serious disease is to be made by the proper medical authorities.
  5. Must be willing to work flexible hours and more than 40 hours per week, if necessary.
  6. Must be customer service oriented. Handle any situations in a professional manor.
  7. Must have an interest in working with persons with disabilities.
  8. Must exhibit a dedication to the philosophies of the agency.
  9. Must have basic math skills.
  10. Exhibit average writing and verbal skills.
  11. Act as a positive role model for individuals served.
  12. Ability to communicate with co-workers in an effective and courteous manner.
  13. Act in a safe manner.
  14. Willingness to participate in behavior management techniques and crisis intervention strategies to insure physical safety of the individual.
  15. Capability to assist an individual to regain their balance, transfer from a sitting, standing, or a prone position.
  16. Uphold all confidential information concerning individuals or the organization.
  17. Must not have been convicted of any type of assault, abuse, or bodily injury.
  18. All agency staff is required to participate and cooperate with agency investigations. Confidentiality will be respected.
  19. Willing to work with others as a team to accomplish task.
  20. Must conform to Drug & Alcohol testing policies.

VI. Physical Requirements:

  1. Must be able to travel from place to place to pick up and deliver product.
  2. Must be able to work a full scheduled shift as assigned.
  3. Must be able to provide physical care to individuals as needed.
  4. Ability to physically assist an individual to regain his balance or to transfer from a sitting, standing or prone position.
  5. Must be able to carry necessary supplies to complete job functions.
  6. Physically handle materials and equipment as needed. Load/unload work contracts manually lifting up to 70 lbs.
  7. Bend over packing boxes to place products in boxes. Height of boxes may range from 3-3½ feet.
  8. Must be able to bend, squat, push and pull.
