Position Summary:

The primary focus of the Fleet Safety Specialist is ensuring driver safety and compliance. This involves developing and implementing strategies and programs to guarantee the safe operation of our fleet team. You'll conduct comprehensive worksite assessments to identify risks and ensure compliance with regulations, investigate worksite accidents, comply with detailed reports, and communicate effectively with managers and employees to address safety concerns and maintain a secure working environment for all fleet operations. This position will also have a responsibilities for implementing and auditing safety at depots, Total Pallet Management (TPM) sites, and other functional teams that encounter safety hazards in their job.

Essential Functions:

  • Driver Compliance
    1. Ensure drivers and Equipment are in compliance with all DOT and FMCSA requirements and regulations
    2. Track and ensure all driver qualifications are up to date and in order
    3. Monitor driver logs to ensure they are operating within Hours of service regulations
    4. Track changes in FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, and applicable Federal and State regulations.
  • Safety and Training
    1. Manage and oversee the revisions of the fleet safety manual along with the training programs.
    2. Develop and deliver training modules and pertinent subjects for employees working in remote environments.
    3. Ensure team members are trained in using databases and electronic tools and working safely.
    4. Lead in-person and virtual training sessions and meetings, assigning online training when applicable.
  • Accident Investigation and Reporting
    1. Ensure comprehensive investigations of fleet accidents, injuries, near misses, incidents, and ensure corrective actions.
  • Worksite Assessments and Compliance
    1. Conduct audits and assessments of facility environments to ensure compliance with OSHA and industry-specific health and safety standards.
    2. Conduct risk assessments and analysis of processes to reduce the risk of injury.
  • Continuous Improvement
    1. Engage in the organization's lean process initiatives.
    2. Devise effective countermeasures to prevent potential accidents, injuries, and near misses.
    3. Propose new processes and methods for working safely and efficiently to reinforce the culture of continuous improvement.
    4. Develop and implement operational processes, root cause analysis techniques, department workflows, safety guidelines, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Collaboration and Leadership
    1. Promote and support an environment of safety excellence.
    2. Coordinate and lead Safety Committees in assigned areas. Establish committee structure, document meeting minutes, and follow through to complete actions.
    3. Participate in corporate teams and meetings, both virtual and in-person. as needed to assist in the development of safety policies and procedures.
    4. Utilize company resources such as Biz Library, Smartsheet, and Teams to integrate safety into company safety programs.

  • A highly organized, self-motivated professional adept at planning and achieving objectives.
  • Skilled at developing meeting and training materials, conducting classroom-style training, and delivering presentations to varied audiences.
  • Proficient understanding of transportation operations, best practices for drivers, dock safety, and material handling activities.
  • Establish effective communication and build rapport with drivers and workers on an individual and regional level.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in occupational and fleet safety.
  • Knowledge and experience implementing safe work practices, fleet safety programs, DOT, and OSHA requirements.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety Management, Industrial Safety, or Fleet Safety.

Environment/Physical Demands

  • Capability to stand, walk, and move around large vehicles and equipment for extended periods
  • Capacity to perform occasional physical tasks such as bending, stooping, and reaching when conducting safety inspections.

    • 75% based on business needs
