This position is an exciting opportunity to work in our Women's Health, Prenatal, Family Planning, TB, Refugee Health, HIV and STD clinics. This is an OPS position with flexible hours. There are no weekend or holiday work requirements and no on call hours, except in the unusual event of a natural disaster. The working hours will be 8:00AM-4:30PM Monday through Friday and will be decided with the applicant. Primary responsibility is working in the public health setting to include CORE Public Health Services, including Refugee Health. Application of nursing principles and techniques in the care and treatment of clients, client assessment, medication issuance, counseling clients, arranging appropriate referrals and testing, appropriate documentation in the medical record. This position is required to work various assigned clinics according to clinic needs. Must be able to perform independently with the primary responsibility to perform specialized and comprehensive care to clients of Women's Health/Family Planning. Family Planning services are provided according to the Federal Title X Guidelines. ln addition, must be able to assess, diagnose and treat STD diseases and related conditions. Assess family planning patient's total health needs through advanced examination, including medical history, observation, physical examination, and procedures necessary to obtain smears and cultures for the detection of infection and abnormalities. Work is performed under the supervision of the County Health Department OPS Senior Physician. * Select, use, and monitor diagnostic tests and procedures such as urinalysis, x-rays, blood work, smears, and cultures. * Counsel patients concerning sexually transmitted diseases, prevention, and treatment. * Establish, train, and maintain under protocol for long term hormonal conceptive implant (i.e. Implanon) program. Initiate and manage patients using any form of birth control according to family planning protocols, including emergency contraceptive pills and methods requiring surgical placement. (lUD's) * Monitor medications and initiate appropriate therapy for certain conditions. Initiate vitamins and ferrous sulfate therapy as indicated. * Refers abnormal findings beyond scope of expertise to the Senior Physician. * Participates in family planning personnel staff development programs. * Serves as family planning resource person. * Performs colposcopies to evaluate abnormal pap smears, if indicated. * Performs duties of family planning APRN as necessary & perform other procedures under physician direction per protocol, fetus, manual pelvimetry and other entitles described in the maternity protocol. * Perform routine post-partum examinations. * Screen all patients within programs for Tdap, HPV and Flu vaccinations and provide immunization education. * Provide counseling for sexually transmitted diseases, prevention, and treatment. Initiate appropriate therapy for STD's based on current CDC treatment guidelines. Monitor results of therapy. * Counsel patients concerning effectiveness, in addition to pros and cons, of all forms of birth control, if requested. * Performs other duties as assigned: including, but not limited to: * Participation in clinic schedule preparation & attendance at staff and provider meetings * Provide input to policy development. * Education of team members. * Provide public health services as required during a disaster, including manning of Special Needs Shelters or POD (Point of Distribution) in the event of a public health emergency. * Working hours: Daily from 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. * Total hours in workweek: 16 to 40.
