Chevron is accepting online applications for the position of Experienced Plant Operator located at Richmond Refinery, CA.

The successful candidate will operate and monitor company plants and facilities, typically Upstream facilities after primary separation and processing (such as gas and co-gen plants) and Downstream and chemical refineries and plants. Process variables, troubleshoots and performs interventions to maintain operating performance.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Operation of process units utilizing a wide range of control systems and equipment that includes tanks, mixers, heat exchangers, pumps, furnaces, and vacuum systems

  • Operation of manual and automatic valves, meters, pumps, and transfer systems that move product between tanks and process units

  • Comprehensive understanding of refinery policies and procedures and Process and Personal Safety.

  • Housekeeping to maintain a clean work environment and clean equipment such as filters, tanks, exchangers, and other equipment

  • This position requires driving on a routine basis.

  • Demonstrate ability to be a problem solver. Able to grasp complex issues and apply good problem-solving skills to develop recommendations/solution

  • Able to remove roadblocks and consider alternative approaches to arrive at workable solutions.

  • Look for opportunities to increase efficiency and reduce costs

  • Build rapport and establish positive working relationships both internally and externally with Chevron. Efficiently and effectively takes actions to meet customer needs. Responds and follows up on requests quickly and efficiently. Uses feedback to monitor and address customer concerns.

  • Work closely within a group and with other departments to set priorities, coordinate, and follow up on business objectives.

Required Qualifications:

  • Previous Chevron operator experience

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years of work experience either as a Process Operator in an oil refinery/petrochemical plant or as a Nuclear Plant Operator.

  • Valid Driver's License. The job necessitates driving on a routine basis

  • Must be able to work a rotating 12-hour shift, overtime as required, and on-call

  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including full-body coveralls, protective footwear, hard hats, hearing protection, eye protection, full-face respirators, and/or self-contained breathing apparatus

  • This is a Safety Sensitive Position. Candidates must demonstrate personal commitment to Incident and Injury Operations with a proven track record in Safety and Reliability

  • Must obtain a TWIC card within 6 months of employment

  • Must be able to work at heights with appropriate fall protection, climb, crawl, and work in confined spaces.

  • Must pass online pre-employment testing process*

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's/Technical Degree from a Process Technology Program

  • Regional Occupational Program (Process Plant Operator or Industrial Maintenance Mechanic) certificate completed within the last 2 years

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the assigned processing unit and has the ability to relate it to others

  • Demonstrates ability to be a problem solver

  • Able to grasp complex issues and apply good problem-solving skills to develop recommendations/solutions

  • Able to remove roadblocks and consider alternative approaches to arrive at workable solutions

  • Look for opportunities to increase efficiency and reduce costs

  • Able to build rapport and establish positive working relationships both internally and externally with Chevron

  • Responds and follow up on requests quickly and efficiently

  • Uses feedback to monitor and address customer concerns

  • Ability to work closely within a group and with other departments to set priorities, coordinate, and follow up on business objectives

  • Ability to effectively utilize computer tools

  • Must be able to work independently, take initiative, and act on opportunities

  • Ability to plan and organize own work

  • Ability to multi-task with changing priorities and assignments.
