Job Purpose

The Senior Quality Inspector performs and documents routine field and laboratory testing/inspections as required by Project Quality Management Plan or as directed by Construction Quality Manager and oversees operations for the company to ensure they meet standards in accordance with project specifications and plans.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Testing Concrete for Air Content, Slump, and Temperature.
  • Making concrete cylinders/beams in the field for early or 28-day acceptance.
  • Nuclear Gauge Density Testing on Soil and Aggregate bases.
  • Using core drill to cut concrete cores on various pavements.
  • Measuring, trimming, and capping concrete cores.
  • Perform Concrete Plant Inspections
  • Sample aggregates and soils at jobsites, concrete plants, and quarries.
  • Break cylinders and cores for strength determination.
  • Maintain and calibrate company owned testing equipment.
  • Proper use of core drill to cut cores on various pavements.
  • Perform straight edge testing on pavement.
  • Mark and lay out roughness areas or bumps on pavement to grind.
  • Filling out, documenting, and submitting all reports that correlates with the above duties and responsibilities as required by the Owner.
  • Understand weekly reports and daily plans.
  • Identify processes and activities requiring written quality control procedures.
  • Test pavement smoothness with the use of an inertial profiler.
  • Analyze smoothness profile traces.
  • Identify when an RFI is needed.
  • Be reliable, possess a good attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Be a team player.

Qualifications

  • Below qualifications or equivalent needed.
  • MoDOT certifications for Concrete Field, Concrete Strength, Aggregate Tech, Soil Density and/or Field Density, and International Roughness Index.
  • IDOT certification in level 1 Concrete.
  • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I Certification.
  • Nuclear Density Gauge Safety and Hazmat/Transportation Training Certification.
  • Railroad Safety Training.
  • 30-hour OSHA training.
  • Proficient in Quality Control ITP requirements for material testing, inspection, and documentation.
  • Knowledge of QC requirements for subcontractor work.
  • Ability to identify when QC is required based on activity being performed.
  • Ability to perform Concrete Plant Uniformity test and know if it passes or fails.
  • Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with a wide variety of individuals in person, via telephone and in writing. Excellent customer relations skills.
  • Thorough understanding of construction standards and specifications.
  • Proficient in plan reading.
  • Proficient in inspections through the understanding of standards, specifications, and the ability to read plans.
  • Ability to work independently and resolve practical problems, keeping all appropriate parties aware of issues or risks.
  • Have a strong work ethic.
  • Assist in the development of Quality Technicians.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understand basic behavior-based safety programs and enforce company's safety policies.

Other Functions

  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

Outside environment, exposure to all weather conditions and temperature extremes. Site specific exposure to hazardous materials requiring proper use of Personal Protective Equipment. Noise levels are site specific and may be subject to PPE.

  • Position will require employee to spend a large portion of their time on the project sites.
