Job Description

Capital University School of Education invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor with an anticipated start date of August 2024. Candidates must have earned a Doctorate (ABD will be considered) in Education, Teaching and Learning, Curriclum and Instruction, or similar fields with specialization in grades 4 through 12 English Language Arts Education. Experience teaching English or Language Arts in a grades 4 through 12 setting is required. Candidates should have at least three years of teaching experience in grades 4 through 12 setting; state or national educator licensed or license eligible in the field of English Language Arts (ELA); evidence of effective teaching, collaborative service, and scholarly productivity; evidence of state and national accreditation in the area of ELA; experience supervising teacher candidates; and experience advising teacher candidates. Experience teaching or significant background knowledge in the area of literacy is preferred but not required.


Responsibilities:

  • Teaching courses needed in the ELA Majors sequence [e.g. Language Arts and Reading pedagogy, literature, literacy, and writing with the ability to make meaning through reading and exploring grade/age level literature (classics AND contemporary); teach writing across classic genres (description, narration, exposition, argumentation) and poetry; and teach basic English language skills (speaking/listening, writing, grammar, vocabulary, linguistics, syntax/semantics).]
  • Supervision and advising of teacher candidates majoring in ELA.
  • Service to the School of Education, University and the profession of ELA.
  • Scholarly activity (e.g. publications, presentations, grants) with faculty across college/departments, schools in the community, and the profession.

While teaching courses in elementary, middle childhood education and adolescents to young adult English Language Arts content and supervising teacher candidates, the applicant will help teacher candidates exhibit content knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge, demonstrate and apply knowledge of diversity in learners, learning and assessment; demonstrate and implement knowledge of curriculum and general pedagogy to impact student learning, participate in collaboration, employ effective communication, and create an engaging educational environment, and evidence the professional dispositions, ethics, and responsibilities of a teacher.
