Learning Commons Supervisor

Philadelphia FIGHT Community Health Centers (FIGHT) is a comprehensive health services organization providing primary care, consumer education, research, and advocacy for people living with HIV/AIDS and those at high risk. This position is in FIGHT's Education and Training Department, which offers a wide range of educational, psychosocial, and risk-reduction programming for youth and adults living with HIV, those at high risk, and the general community at large.


The Critical Path Learning Center (CPLC) at Philadelphia FIGHT is an educational commons and consumer health library devoted to the intersection of health and literacy in a digital era. We nurture life-long learning through meaningful, non-judgmental access to education, information, and knowledge through the expertise of our interdisciplinary team. Our services are available to all people.

Job Responsibilities

The Learning Commons Supervisor will provide case management to Learning Center participants to help identify and reduce barriers to participation in education programs and/or meet their goals. Participants may be connected to Critical Path Learning Center case management services through the Learning Commons/Library space of the Critical Path Learning Center, by the adult education instructor, or by clinics. The Learning Commons Supervisor will work across the Department of Education and Training programs to ensure participants have opportunities to set their own goals, develop individualized support plans, and access the resources they need.

The Learning Commons Supervisor is also responsible for coordinating and scheduling the adult education instructional offerings at the Critical Path Learning Center, staffing the information Desk during open access hours, and connect guests to resources at FIGHT and across the city. The Learning Commons Supervisor will facilitate CASAS assessments and provide support for Philadelphia FIGHS's adult education campus, connect participants to education, health, and social resources, and assist with navigating and utilizing the Critical Path Learning Commons during open access hours. An ideal candidate has extensive experience managing, greeting and navigating guests, assisting people with the use of basic technology, and providing services for vulnerable populations, including but not limited to: people living below the poverty line, people with low levels of literacy, people living with chronic disease, people who have been incarcerated, LGBTQ+ people, and other members of under-served communities.

Core Responsibilities:

Case Management

  • Provide on-on-one support to Learning Center participants about accessing vital services, including medical cares, mental health cares, housing, legal, and employment.
  • Maintain 15 case management hours/week
  • Work with Learning Center participants to develop individualized learning plan and set goals.
  • Refer and link Learning Center participants to resources, adult education, and job readiness classes within the Learning Center.
  • Refer and link Learning Center participants to health care and other services across FIGHT and other agencies.
  • Conduct intake interviews and assessment with new participants.
  • Work in partnership with the Adult Education Instructors to ensure adult learners have access to wrap around support services.
  • Work with Library and Resource Services Supervisor to provide workshops to Learning Center participants on relevant topics, such as getting an ID, securing housing, childcare, etc.
  • Maintain all documentation through service logs and the entry of notes related to the delivery of case management services.
  • Ensure all required data are collected and submitted on tiem.
  • Attend case conferences and trainings conducted by the Lax Center Medical Case Management team.

Information Desk

  • Welcome guest and staff the Information Desk daily during public access hours.
  • Assist guest with completing sign-ins, demographic forms, and program applications.
  • Maintain the AIDS library space, including tidying up, instructing guests to adhere to the rules, and creating a warm environment for all
  • Refer and link guests to medical care, case management, and mental health services at FIGHT and other agencies.
  • Assist Learning Center guests in using the technology in the space, including desktops, iPads, laptops, and various cellphones.
  • Assist checking out, returning, and re-shelving materials as needed.

Intake and Assessments Coordination

  • Schedule and input all assessment details into the appropriate database and per the standards of the Office of Children and Families department of Adult Education.
  • Provide learners with reminders of the appointment prior to the assessment and document learner attendee, intake information, and learner contact in the required database per requirements outlined by funders.
  • Assign learners to their best education through the city's adult education campus network, ensuring learners are paced in programs that fit their educational needs, schedule, and skills.
  • Maintain class schedules, scheduling of the space, obtaining the correct technology for the instruction, ensuring availability of instructional hours sufficient to meet learner needs and funding goals.
  • Maintain any required paper and digital files for Learning Center participants, ensuring HIPAA compliance and consistent collection of data and intake paperwork.

Education and Information Coordination with Critical Path Learning Center

  • Ensure all CPLC and FIGHT staff, particularly Information Desk staff, have the most recent information about the adult education program so they can appropriately field calls and requests. May include providing written information and flyers for FIGHT frontline staff.
  • Respond to information requests both on site and remotely and using all available methods of information transfer such as email, phone, fax, mail, and websites.
  • Calendar and coordinate special events and workshops as requested.
  • Collaborate with other CPLC staff to run monthly orientation sessions for guests.
  • Assist and support other Education and Training Department programs as necessary
  • Other tasks as assigned
Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • MSW or equivalent degree required
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience pro
  • Experience in adult education or workforce development highly desirable.
  • Up-to-date on best practices on integrating digital literacy into adult basic education.
  • Excellent communication skills required, both written and oral. Candidate should be flexible, self-motivated, organized, able to work well under pressure and collaboratively.

Other:

  • Initial probationary period is three months.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to continuously stand, walk, or sit.
  • Ability to bend frequently.
  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds and pull to up to 30lb suitcases
  • Ability to squat.
