Position Summary:

Supports Santa Clara Pueblo and its community members by installing items such as handicap accessories and ramps in accordance with the American Disabilities Act specifications. Performs rehab on homes of qualified and approved program applicants. Complete plumbing repairs as needed, assist sanitation department with work orders when available. Employee may be requested to perform supplemental duties by administration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Installs and repairs handicap fixtures for disabled and Senior Citizens of the Pueblo.
  • Installs wheelchair ramps, handrails in restrooms and shower stalls.
  • Installs and repairs restroom walls and floors.
  • Installs plumbing fixtures.
  • Minor home repair and renovation for disabled, impaired and/or Senior Citizens.
  • Works with Sanitation crew when not working on handicap projects. Therefore employee must perform basic plumbing services and various other tasks which vary from a day-to-day basis.
  • Contributes to a team effort by accomplishing related results as required.
  • Must be acknowledgeable of current ADA specifications.
  • Must be able to understand building floor plans, construction drawings and specifications.
  • Must understand basic plumbing, electrical and mechanical drawings, symbols and specifications
  • Must be able to calculate materials needed for a project including obtaining written quotes.
  • Must be able to communicate to the elderly on what is expected from them to complete modifications to their home.
  • Must be able to act as a lead field person in the event the head plumber is not available.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supplemental Duties & Responsibilities:

Note that this supplemental position is seasonal & at the request of the administration.

  • Works in construction, rehabilitation, reparation and creation of structures, developments, and maintenance of Tribal structures.
  • Loads, and unloads lumber, equipment, stone, pipes and other building materials.
  • Lifts, carries, transports building materials, tools and supplies.
  • Keeps tools clean and in good working order.
  • Uses hand tools, power tools to complete assigned tasks.
  • Maintains community water and wastewater system in good working order.
  • Understands work schedules must be met and directs subordinates as necessary
  • Inspects the water and wastewater system and makes minor repairs as necessary to maintain water flow, etc.
  • Contributes to a team effort by accomplishing related results as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Direct labors full time and temporary laborers or other assigned subordinates as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Able to write routine reports, work orders, etc.
  • Able to apply and carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Capacity to interact effectively with employees at all levels of the organization as well as outside vendors.
  • Must be able to maintain the upkeep of all equipment.
  • Must be able to use a computer and be familiar with computer software related to the program.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a High School Diploma/GED.
  • One year mechanic certificate from college of technical school plus one year related experience; or equivalent contribution of education and experience.
  • Must not have any DUI's/DWI's convictions within the last five (5) years from any Tribal, State or Federal Court.
  • Valid New Mexico Driver's License and insurable through the Tribe's insurance carrier.
  • Able to pass a background check.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to walk and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and depth perception. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
