Administrative Assistant

Vocational Rehabilitation

Department of Human Services

Hourly Wage: $15.74-$17.72/Regular/Full-Time


Provides a variety of clerical administration office support to the Vocational Rehabilitation office. Coordinates and prioritizes assigned daily workload to ensure smooth workflow to maintain office operations efficiency. Primary responsibilities include but not limited to, answering phones, engaging with the public, providing customer service assistance, data processing, bookkeeping, routine and filing correspondence, timesheets, personnel, and related documents, picking up mail. Incumbent must be reliable.


Examples of Work Performed:

Responsible for maintaining and keeping file system current.

Utilize standard office equipment such as phones, copier, computer, and fax.

Assist with miscellaneous typing and spreadsheets.

Keeping an inventory of office supplies and ordering new materials as needed.

Monitors office supplies, equipment, and services.

Keep records of all Yakama Nation Memos and Resolutions as they are distributed to the Nation.

Reviews incoming mail: date stamps and distributes to various staff. Schedules appointments for caseworkers and director.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of filing practices and procedures.

Knowledge of office administration principles.

Knowledge of basic business English grammar and math.

Knowledge of standard office equipment.

Skill in use of computer, and assorted software such as, Adobe, Microsoft Word, Publisher, Excel,

Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, and client database systems.

Ability to engage with diverse individuals.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of all records of participants and staff.

Ability to process checks and receive receipts.

Ability to prioritize and multitask, work independently and be a self-starter.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, director/manager, other tribal programs, and the public.

Ability to deescalate high stressful situations.


Minimum Requirements:

High School Diploma or GED.

One to two years experience as an Office Assistant IV or equivalent.

Must pass a pre-employment background check.

Required to pass a pre-employment drug test.

Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.


Preferred Requirements:

Associate degree in Business/Accounting or related field.
