Purpose of Position 

The Safety Director will be responsible for the continuous development of Safety Policies and Procedures as well as
effective implementation of these policies. The Safety Director is ultimately responsible for having an effective
workplace Safety program and culture in place. This position directs the resources and activities of the organization to
support the Safety programs and initiatives by providing advice and guidance to company management and senior
management. This position has significant influence on the company’s overall performance in the areas of corporate
Safety. The primary challenge is to continually maintain an appropriate level of awareness, knowledge, and
preparedness across the organization to create a culture that prioritizes effective Safety and balances overall associated
costs. Provide overall leadership, professional knowledge and expertise in the administration and support of Safety
processes for all aspects of T&T Construction to include regulatory agency compliance, organizational policies and
employee Safety knowledge and awareness


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety Management, risk management, Safety engineering, Occupational Safety and Health, or equivalent
    required.
  • Preference given to those with Professional Certifications (ASP – Associated Safety Professional / CSP – Certified Safety
    Professional).
  • Prefer 10+ years’ experience in the commercial construction industry. Prefer 10+ years’ experience in a leadership
    role at the corporate level.
  • Must be familiar with and have knowledge and experience in concrete, cast in place, tilt-wall, pre-cast, post tension, masonry type construction, reinforcement steel, and excavation safety.
  • Current with OSHA 510 and OSHA 500. Facilitate completion of OSHA 10 & 30 courses, First Aid/CPR, Forklift, Aerial-lift, Signalman and Rigging, Excavator training.
    Also, must be familiar with Fleet Safety as well as State & Federal DOT/FMCSA Safety requirements.
  • An energetic self-starter, detail and results oriented person with the ability to complete multiple tasks, Must be able to work independently, use time wisely and have excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to observe and perceive any work activity that might become a potential hazard and effectively mitigate it, ability to handle conflict and use diplomacy when necessary.
  • Excellent teaching and facilitation skills, ability to conduct safety training, Chair safety meetings and conduct thorough accident investigations. travel to and conduct regular work site safety inspections.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus. PC skills: MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet, and menu driven systems. 

Administrative
The overall implementation, management and enforcement of all safety programs policies and procedures including both employee
job site safety and fleet safety. Effectively assist our employees in attaining a safe work environment.
• Review & edit as necessary the company safety manual, and all safety documentation.
• Manages the company’s Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), and Safety Incentive initiatives.
• Conduct new hire safety orientation training with assistance from Human Resources.
• Maintain records of training, periodic inspections, corrective actions and investigations. Also serves as a resource to the
organization for Safety support, supplies, and information
• Develops and maintains an aggressive accident investigation program. This includes thorough investigation of all
accidents, identification of root causes, developing effective programs to prevent recurrence, and company-wide
communication and education on same.
• Maintains OSHA 300 log and other required reports and ensures compliance of required postings.
• Administers the company’s Worker’s Compensation Program effectively. This includes a focus on accident prevention,
cost reduction, effective case management, return-to-work programs, and similar relative to work related illness and
injuries. Working with Human Resources and our insurance representative to review & mitigate all worker’s comp claims
in a timely manner.
• Coordinates effectively with Human Resources on leave administration and the corrective action process relative to work
related illnesses and injuries.
• Responsible for a thorough analysis of accident trends and for the development and implementation of strategies to
effectively resolve actual or perceived Safety issues.
• Monitors and ensures compliance with regularly scheduled Safety meetings, facility inspections, and emergency drills at
all locations.
• Creates and maintains a culture reflective of a commitment to an illness and injury-free workplace.
• Provides regular written and/or oral reports to senior leadership on the Safety program’s successes and challenges.
• Ensures compliance with all environmental, health, and Safety standards promulgated by local, state, and federal agencies.
• Responsible for overseeing the security program and systems at the company headquarters.
• Stay abreast of current and emerging technical and professional aspects of this position.
Project Related
• Write site specific safety plans for new project start-ups and review all safety related requirements with the Project
Manager & Superintendent.
• Ensure the customer (GC) has been provided with all safety related documentation for the project and review with their
representative any specific areas of concern. Attend project site safety meetings as requested.
• Provide job hazard analysis and risk assessment reports as requested,

• Provide companywide weekly toolbox talks and trainings.
• Conducts (or coordinates) on-site Safety reviews and audits at all locations to ensure compliance with safe working
operations as specified and required by OSHA and company policy and procedure.
• Conduct frequent job site safety inspections. This includes projects in and outside the Central Florida area including in
other states. Must be able to bend, squat, walk and climb stairs/ladders as needed for site inspections.
• Provide to management a prompt and complete site safety inspection report to include photos of areas of concern as well
as photos of positive observations.
• Stop hazardous operations where life hazard or major property damage is imminent and take corrective action before
allowing personnel to resume production work.
• Conduct pre-tilt lifting safety training with all personnel involved.
• Be on site and observe tilt-wall lifting for safety compliance.
• Ensure when an OSHA compliance officer visits a construction site that the on-site Field Managers understand the
required protocols.
• Respond in the event of any State or Federal Safety and Health (OSHA) or Environmental DEP/EPA investigation.
Training


Conduct training as necessary including but not limited to the following areas:
a. 10/30 HR OSHA
b. First Aid/CPR
c. Forklift Operator
d. Aerial lift Operator
e. Signalman & Rigging
f. Excavations
g. Fall Protection
h. Scaffolding Competent Person Training
i. Driver safety, DOT/FMCSA requirements and load securement
j. Knowledge of applicable DEP/EPA regulations


Recommend to management additional training as may be necessary.
The Safety Director is expected to travel on a regular basis and conduct his business at the work sites as well as develop a
professional working relationship with field personnel and customers alike. This position is to provide assistance to all company
personnel in successfully maintaining a safe and healthy work environment minimizing accidents while maintaining the highest
level of production possible. A company vehicle, laptop and phone are provided for this position
