BARTENDER JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Class: Non-Exempt Reports To: Food & Beverage Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY: The Bartender is responsible for preparing and serving drinks by following recipes at all times as well as serving food and treating guests in a friendly manner by being outgoing and communicative.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: NOTE: Legacy Development & Management may unilaterally may change the requirements of this job description at any time. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. These include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Responsible for adhering to the New Mexico Liquor Service Policy.
  • Promptly welcome each guest personally.
  • Communicate with guests using clear and enthusiastic words, tone and body language at all times. Make guests feel appreciated through your actions.
  • Work as a team in order to maintain an effective atmosphere and an efficient food and beverage service.
  • Work with others to keep all areas cleaned, stocked, and safe at all times.
  • Mix, garnish and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks for patrons of bar and dining room following standard recipes.
  • Ring drink orders into computer immediately, collect money from guests for drinks served and make change.
  • Arrange bottles and glasses to maintain an attractive displace in agreement with Hotel Andaluz standards.
  • Wash and sterilize stemware.
  • Perform needed bar prep.
  • Be attentive and offer your assistance before the guests has to ask for it.
  • Count drinks guests are served and prior to serving, notify the manager on duty when a guest is about to order the fourth drink with food and third drink without food.
  • Place current bar tabs in front of guests at all times.
  • Anticipate your guest's needs. Follow the half-full rule when offering another drink. Be alert of guest signals (raising a hand, looking directly at you, etc.), and acknowledge the guest so they know you will be right with them.
  • Learn your guest's names, occupations, and favorite drinks. This will make Hotel Andaluz a special place for them.
  • Responsible service of alcohol. Should a guest reach the state you do not feel they should drive, we will supply a taxi. Do not hesitate to ask for management intervention if necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (INCLUDES EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE): The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2 (two) years of experience directly related to the essential functions listed above
  • Requires a minimum of two (2) years customer service experience.
  • Must possess outstanding customer service, organizational, and interpersonal skills as well as excellent attention to detail and the ability to multi-task
  • Must possess excellent communication skills, verbally interacts with management, servers, team members and guests with proper etiquette, grammar and spelling
  • Must be Alcohol Certified in the state of New Mexico or be able to pass Responsible Service of Alcohol Test within 30 days of hire.
  • Must possess basic math skills and have the ability to operate cash register and/or POS system and count back change
  • Must be able to communicate in English with guests, management, and other employees to their understanding. Additional languages skills a plus
  • Must have knowledge of workplace safety procedures
  • Must be able to work overtime, including weekends, evenings and special events as needed
