Job Description
HIRING: Excavation Laborer
At Layton Services, we're a commercial, industrial, and residential excavation contractor that has been family-owned and operated in Central Ohio for nearly 30 years. Our services primarily include earthwork, site development (mass excavation, building pads, sub-grade prep), and underground utilities (water main, fire line, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and detention systems.) Located in Newark, Ohio with a majority of work in Columbus, Licking County, and the surrounding area.
Summary of Job Description:
Responsible for performing physical labor on construction sites. May operate hand and power tools of all types. May clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support sides of excavations, and clean up debris. May assist other craft workers by laying pipes and operating heavy equipment as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Measure, mark, and record openings and distances to lay out areas where work will be performed.
- Clean and prepare sites to eliminate possible hazards.
- Control traffic passing near, in, and around work zones.
- Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
- Load, unload, and identify building materials, machinery, and tools, and distribute them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications.
- Lubricate, clean, and fuel equipment, and tools.
Role Qualifications:
- Industry-related experience is preferred.
- Trenching and Excavating Certificate (can obtain once hired)
- 10-hour OSHA Certificate in construction (can obtain once hired)
- Reliable transportation
- Must possess the ability to relate well to others, a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
