Metering/Apparatus Technician

Homer Electric Association (HEA) is a member-owned electric utility serving the central and southern areas of the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. We are seeking a Metering/Apparatus Technician at the Kenai facility. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Installs and maintains large power load and substation metering equipment and ensures that an adequate inventory of these items is maintained.
  • Receives, inspects, and tests new meters, and maintains meter inventory records.
  • Tests, repairs, and replaces single and polyphase meters.
  • Investigates and resolves consumer complaints involving power quality and metering.
  • Installs and maintains low voltage AC & DC systems, removes, tests, adjusts, and repairs protective relaying devices, SCADA hardware and software, and related equipment.
  • Performs maintenance testing and repair of the internal workings of substation and line equipment.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate degree in electronics or electrical technology.
  • Two years' experience in maintaining and installing power metering devices and protective relaying equipment.
  • Four years of additional electrical experience may be submitted for degree.

REQUIRED LICENSES, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Must submit a valid Alaska Driver's license and maintain a good driving record.
  • Must possess and maintain a current CPR/First Aid card.
  • Must be familiar with the operation of meter and relay test equipment.
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and applicable OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to apply rational thinking to solve practical problems and to comprehend instructions.
  • Ability to mathematically add, subtract, multiply, and divide, work with decimals and fractions, and understand and calculate measurements.
  • Ability to read and comprehend relevant instruction manuals, construction drawings, electrical diagrams, and maps.
