TITLE: ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR ECKCE (located in Baldwin City Kansas).


QUALIFICATIONS: Hold a current Building Leadership license (Pre-K-12) through the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE).

Have experience in Special Education with application of current laws and regulations.

Have a child-centered philosophy for educating students with all disabilities and preferably a background in putting this philosophy into practice. Experience in working with/developing teams of educational professionals is strongly encouraged.


REPORTS TO: Director and Board of Directors


SUPERVISES: Teachers, paraeducators, support staff, and students.


JOB GOAL: To provide quality supervision, management, and leadership to the teachers of the special education programs of East Central Kansas Cooperative in Education (ECKCE) service area and facilitate appropriate improvements. The Assistant Director should have a strong background in special education law and developing programs which ensure compliance and a FAPE in the LRE for all students served under IDEA and corresponding Kansas statutes and regulations.


MANAGEMENT TEAM: The Assistant Director shall be directly responsible to the Director of ECKCE. The Board, the Director, and the Assistant Director are the management team with respect to ECKCE. In event of negotiation procedures with certified or non-certified employees, the Board expects these administrators to act and think in this capacity.


ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTION: The Assistant Director shall be responsible for the administration of special programs and the enforcement of policies of the Board, and shall have authority to call upon all certified and non-certified personnel in this program to this end.


RESPONSIBILITY: The Assistant Director shall perform duties assigned by the director, including development of budgets, professional development activities and protocols, supervision of licensed and classified personnel, oversight of the IEP program and all performance and compliance indicators required by the state and federal government.


TIME OF ARRIVAL AT BUILDING: The Assistant Director shall adjust his/her time of arrival and departure from ECKCE schools in such a way that they are available for consultation by teacher and/or parents before and/or after school. No definite time shall be established by these policies but it shall be left to the judgment of the administrator with consultation from the Director.


KNOWLEDGE OF BOARD POLICIES AND STATE AND LOCAL REGULATIONS REGARDING SPECIAL EDUCATION: It shall be a duty of the assistant director to keep informed concerning the rules, policies, and regulations of the Board of Directors. It shall also be a duty to keep abreast of current laws regarding special education and to assist the director in facilitating compliance with all applicable regulations.


STUDENT PLACEMENT: The assistant director shall monitor and assist in student placement, including placement at the Interlocal`s WEBS program.


SPECIAL EDUCATION ENROLLMENT INFORMATION: The assistant director shall maintain current information on special education enrollments.


INTERVIEWS FOR PARAEDUCATORS AND OTHER STAFF VACANCIES: Shall coordinate the interviews for paraeducators with building principals and special education teachers and specialists when appropriate and make recommendations to the Board of Directors for employment.


OTHER DUTIES:

1. The assistant director shall meet with the Director/Leadership Team for conferences as often as required.

2. Keep accurate and complete records.

3. Delegate authority and adequately supervise all academic and non-academic activities placed under their jurisdiction.

4. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director and Board of Directors in reference to his/her responsibilities.

Benefits Information

Board contributes $480 toward BC/BS policy, additional benefits package TBD. Contract will include 20 days of leave.
