BASIC FUNCTION/PURPOSE

The position of Speech Language Pathologist is to provide assessment and speech therapy for students who exhibit difficulties in the areas of language, speech, voice, and fluency. These services are designed to assist students in meeting their educational goal.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assesses students' communication skills (e.g. articulation, fluency, voice, expressive and receptive language) for the purpose of identifying communication disorders, determining program eligibility and developing recommendations for treatment
  • Analyzes and interprets information to make recommendations regarding the need for speech-language services
  • Coordinates meetings and processes (testing/screening, IEPs, parent conferences, etc.) for the purpose of presenting evaluation results, developing treatment plans, and/or providing training to parents/students/staff
  • Develops treatment plans, interventions, and/or educational materials for the purpose of minimizing the adverse impact of communication disorders in compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Provides speech and language therapy to students for the purpose of minimizing the adverse impact of these disorders on student success
  • Adapts intervention strategies based upon student performance
  • Instructs eligible students in the use of appropriate communication technologies for the purpose of minimizing the adverse educational impact of communication disorders in accordance with established guidelines and legal requirements
  • Interprets medical reports and recommendations within the scope of Speech/Language Pathologist's experience for the purpose of providing information and/or ensuring that intervention plans are appropriate
  • Maintains files and records as required for reference and/or compliance
  • Researches resources and methods (intervention and treatment techniques, assessment tools and methods, community resources, etc) for the purpose of determining the appropriate approach for addressing student's needs
  • Coordinates speech-language services with student services provided by other school personnel
  • Adheres to established rules, regulations, laws and appropriate ethical standards
  • Communicates clearly and positively with all stakeholders
  • Promotes effective interpersonal relations with students
  • Provides consultation to parents, teachers, and other appropriate school personnel
  • Performs other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND CREDENTIAL

Master's degree in appropriate or related area

Georgia Certification in Speech Language Pathology

EXPERIENCE

Experiences in education are preferred
