Pay Range: $27.31-38.86

Offering rate will vary within the listed hourly range above. *Supported by the Department budget & related experience/education*

Role:

The Behavioral Health Counselor provides counseling and therapy for clients with diagnosed mental health and substance use disorders The Counselor works collaboratively with clients to perform mental health and substance use disorder evaluations, assess client needs, develop treatment plans, and provide counseling and support to promote positive mental health and well-being.


Minimum Requirements:

Driving: Must have a valid Kansas Driver's license and be insurable with Nation's insurance.

Experience:

Minimum: 6 months of experience working in the Mental Health field.

Preferred: 2+ years of experience working in the Mental Health field.

Education:

Minimum: - master's degree in social work, Human Services, counseling, or related field with a current KS BSRB license in one of the following: Licensed Master Social Work (LMSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT).

Preferred: Possess a current clinical license in one of the following: Social Work (LSCSW), Professional Counselor (LCPC), or Marriage & Family Therapy (LCMFT). and Certification in specialized therapeutic approaches (CBT, DBT, EMDT, etc.).

Interpersonal Skills: The ability to motivate or influence others is a material part of the job, requiring significant level of diplomacy and trust.
Obtaining cooperation (internally and/or externally) is an important part of the job and a high level of interpersonal skills is
critical to the success of this position. Work frequently involves contacts requiring considerable discussion of problems,
material presentations and resolving issues impacting departments or divisions.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of mental health disorders, treatment modalities, and therapeutic techniques.
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions.
  • Knowledge of human behavior; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
  • Knowledge of federal, tribal, state, & local la and policies pertaining to the mental health and substance use disorder treatment fields.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention models, methods, concepts, and practices.
