Internship Program Learning Objectives: The primary objective of this internship is to enable students to apply and reinforce classroom learning in a practical, professional environment. Interns will receive guidance from an experienced member of the Bruce & Merrilees' team. Throughout the internship, participants will:

  • Be assigned challenging projects and tasks
  • Have broad exposure to the company
  • Gain real-life and industry related experience
  • Build and maintain industry connections
  • Balance learning goals with business needs
  • Build both industry-related k knowledge and soft skills

Specific Learning Objectives & Responsibilities: By the end of the internship, and based on ongoing project needs, interns can anticipate involvement in the following areas:

  • Project take-offs and close-out procedures.
  • Monitoring standards, project cost-to-completion, and billing processes.
  • Planning construction schedules.
  • Selecting and ordering equipment.
  • Reviewing contracts, change orders, and creating purchase orders.

Interns will also be able to:

  • Participate in vendor lunch & learn lessons.
  • Join Project Management meetings.
  • Attend client project meetings as needed.
  • Visit project construction sites.

Student Eligibility:

  • Majors in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Junior status or above (Sophomores may be considered)
  • GPA 3.0 or higher.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Composure and focus in a dynamic environment.
  • Availability to work Monday through Friday within the hours of 7:00 am and 5:00 pm

Academic Credit: If seeking academic credit, the student is responsible for initiating and understanding the process, as well as providing B&M with all required forms and information.
