General Function
Under the guidance of the Youth Director, the School Age Childcare Director function encompasses working directly with the full-time staff, part-time staff and children in the YMCA Childcare Programs to aid in fulfilling the YMCA mission.
Know How
This position has multi-functional responsibilities. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and meet the following requirements:
- Understand the basic purpose and nature of the YMCA with the respective roles identified and carried out by volunteers and staff
- Demonstrate the ability to effectively organize and utilize staff in meeting the goals of the organization
- Demonstrate skills in facility management, staff supervision, and marketing.
- Possess good oral and written communication skills and excellent problem-solving skills
- Obtain YMCA Team Leader Certification and additional YMCA professional training
Principle Activities
- Program
- Enrollment of all School Age children into programs
- Assist the Youth Director with youth/childcare operations.
- Directly ensure daily lesson plans are being carried out in all school-age programs
- Working a minimum of 8 hours per week at each off-site program
- Ensure all Childcare School Age sites are meeting all DPW regulations in accordance with the State of PA
- All school-age sites achieve and maintain a Keystone Star 3 level
- Fiscal/Financial Development
- Participate in the Annual Support Campaign by serving on a team and meeting or exceeding the $1,000.00 quota
- Responsible for the processing of all CCIS paperwork on a monthly basis as needed
- Human Resources Management
- Provide leadership and direction to all part-time childcare staff
- YMCA Administration
- Establish and maintain collaborative and cooperative relationships with local government, schools and agencies
- Assure that employees are following policies and expectations by working some combination of hours that will ensure policies are being adhered.
- Maintain professional conduct and a neat appearance consistent with the Dress Policy.
- Being able to articulate and demonstrate the YMCA Mission and Five Core Values.
Effect on End Result
This position has a primary impact on the overall effectiveness with which the Association accomplishes its goals and objectives in service to the community. The School Age Director has a primary impact on the community's understanding of the YMCA through:
- The sound administration of purposeful and coordinated programs, good public relations, financial and records systems and facility management.
- An open, collaborative environment for staff to assume leadership and quality in service to others.
- Positive impact on the retention of participants and members.
