ACCOUNTING/UTILITY CLERK

As an Accounting/Utility Clerk, you'll play an important role in ensuring a positive customer experience while managing utility accounts and performing other financial transactions for the City Finance Department requiring accuracy and attention to detail. Your more routine responsibilities will include:

  • Providing warm, welcoming assistance to customers in person, over the phone, and through electronic channels.
  • Efficiently setting up and maintaining Tooele City utility accounts with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Handling payment processing with precision, posting payments to the correct accounts or general ledger line items, and balancing cash and electronic transactions.
  • Preparing professional business communications, updating information on spreadsheets or other financial records, performing data entry, and running reports and records.
  • Tackling daily challenges with professionalism and empathy, especially during disputed account situations and payment-related inquiries.
  • Collaborating with team members to resolve complex customer issues and ensure a positive, seamless customer experience.
  • Arrange payment agreements for over due accounts within policy guidelines.

Our ideal candidate possesses:

  • Proven experience in customer account management, payment processing, and cash/electronic payment handling.
  • Prior experience balancing a cash and electronic till, including researching and locating discrepancies.
  • Knowledge general ledger and accounting concepts in a professional office environment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and a genuine passion for delivering outstanding customer service.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel to handle reporting and data management tasks effectively.
  • The ability to maintain composure and professionalism, even in high-pressure situations.

Additional Details:

  • This role requires availability on the 1st and 15th of each month, as these are our busiest days.
  • Reliable attendance is a must.
  • This position does have challenging time periods including disputed account balances and water shut-offs for non-payment. If you have that special skill set to remain calm, empathetic, and professional when assisting upset customers or those incurring financial challenges, you'll do just fine completing these tasks.
