Job Description
BASIC PURPOSE:
Provide design engineering and production support to the WIKA Sensor Technology manufacturing location and participate in new product development activities for its product lines. This role has responsibilities in designing load cells, force measurement devices, and pressure transducers. This position has secondary responsibilities for sustaining products support and our customer order fulfillment.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES OF JOB:
Evaluates mechanical and electromechanical systems and products by designing and applying all relevant engineering principles, including, but not limited to mechanics, some electrical design and electronics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer.
Collaborates with the Customer Order Fulfillment team on adjustment designs and technical support
Exercises engineering experience and sound engineering judgment in finding solutions
Performs structural finite element analysis (FEA) on structures, load cell, pressure and sensor parts and advanced designs, to ensure design goals are met
Develops CAD models and drawings in needed to meet assignments (Solidworks)
Performs static and dynamic analysis of required load cases
Designs and tests prototypes and final product reflecting the Voice of the Customer (VOC) for new product development design projects
Assists in processing of Change Notices (CNs) and authors CNs where applicable
Ensures compliance with government and industry regulations in areas of responsibility
Authors and updates engineering SOPs, work instructions, and training material as needed
Performs failure analysis of part designs and identify localized stress concentrations in the design in support with others teams (QA, Manufacturing)
Prepares project presentations, reports, and other summary documentation as needed
Creates costing and quote support for new and existing product designs
Partners with Purchasing, Procurement, and Suppliers where technical solutions are required to facilitate supply chain development
Performs ancillary duties as needed
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, mechatronics, instrumentation, or similar engineering discipline.
Relevant experience of 1+ years design engineering experience in a manufacturing facility
Good understanding of engineering mechanics, calculation of stress and strain, would be an acceptable alternative to the years of experience
Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft office products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Good working knowledge of MS Project and MS Visio
Familiarity using CAD systems including 3D CAD models and drawings for products and components.
Familiarity with finite element analysis (FEA), modeling, and simulation software
Working knowledge of Global Standards like UL, IEC, NEMA, ASTM, ISO, EN, DIN, MIL, RTCA, AGA, etc.
Knowledge of product development, manufacturing, simulation methods and techniques, FMEA, DFMA and other multi-industry engineering principles
Capable of managing multiple priorities
Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to interact successfully with all levels of management as well as a global work force .
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
