Job Description:
A childcare cook is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious meals to children in a childcare setting, such as a childcare center, preschool, or after-school program. The cook must ensure that the meals meet the dietary needs and preferences of the children, while also adhering to any specific guidelines provided by the childcare facility or relevant authorities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and serve nutritious meals - The childcare cook is responsible for planning, preparing, and serving balanced meals that meet the dietary needs of the children in their care. This includes ensuring that the meals are age-appropriate, culturally sensitive, and cater to any dietary restrictions or allergies the children may have.
- Maintain a clean and hygienic kitchen environment - The cook must maintain a clean and organized kitchen, ensuring that all food storage areas, cooking utensils, and equipment are kept in a sanitary condition. This includes regular cleaning, disinfection, and proper storage of food items.
- Collaborate with other staff members - The childcare cook works closely with the childcare staff, including teachers and caregivers, to ensure that the meal schedule aligns with the daily routine of the childcare facility. They may also collaborate with parents or guardians to discuss the nutrition needs and preferences of their children.
- Manage food inventory and ordering - The cook is responsible for managing the inventory of food items, ensuring that they are well-stocked and within their expiration dates. They must also place orders for new supplies and maintain accurate records of food purchases and usage.

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience in cooking and food preparation, preferably in a childcare setting
- Knowledge of nutritional guidelines for children, including age-appropriate and culturally sensitive meal options
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Strong communication skills
- Food handler certification or willingness to obtain.
