Facility and Grounds Keeper

Shift: M-F 7a to 3:30pm. Shift will vary during season changes.

Job Summary

Candidate will be responsible for the upkeep of the roof and grounds areas of the facility during all seasons and weather conditions. They will perform duties based on a pre-determined schedule or as needed by the supervisor. The candidate will also be responsible for the care of grounds equipment and reporting issues to the supervisor.

Essential job duties

  1. Mowing, cleaning and watering lawn areas of the plant.
  2. Inspecting, replacing filters, and sanitizing of rooftop air handling/HVAC units in accordance with schedules and procedures.
  3. General removal of snow and ice using a vehicle mounted plow, snow blower and shovels.
  4. General cleaning of debris and product buildup from the outside perimeter and rooftop areas of the plant.
  5. Perform basic upkeep and maintenance of grounds equipment including: lawn mower and associated attachments; pickup truck and plow; sprinkler systems.
  6. Reporting all major issues or obstacles to the supervisor in a timely manner.
  7. Shift work as needed.
  8. Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

A high school diploma or GED equivalency is required. Applicants shall provide an official transcript(s) for high school and post high school education and training. GED records may be submitted if applicable.

Valid Driver's License, and a clean driving record

Skills

  • Proficient skills as an industrial mechanic.
  • Incumbent must own and maintain a basic set of hand tools.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple to complex instructions, correspondence, and memos.
  • Must be able to creatively apply experience and common sense to a variety of situations, processes, and people.
  • Must be able to make technical decisions and support the staff on technical issues.
  • Possess the ability to manage several projects concurrently.
  • Be able to resolve issues that may include conflicts between employees, equipment malfunctions, and variations in operating conditions.

Physical

Applicants will be physically capable of performing the essential functions of the Facility and Grounds Keeper, with or without a reasonable accommodation, and without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of the individual or others.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is regularly required to talk and hear in both an office environment and a loud environment.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple to complex instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to write various types of documents including, but not limited to, instructions, training outlines, and reports. Ability to effectively present information verbally in one-on-one to large group situations..

Reasoning Ability

Must be able to creatively apply experience and common sense to a variety of situations, processes, and people. Must be able to make technical decisions and support the staff on technical issues. Possess the ability to manage several projects concurrently. Be able to plan work, order parts, and coordinate downtime to complete work orders. Be able to resolve issues which may include conflicts between employees, equipment malfunctions, and variations in operating conditions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to hot and/or humid conditions. The employee occasionally must access high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and extreme heat. The employee is also regularly in an office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, requiring hearing protection.
