Position Title 

Facility Manager 

 

Reports To 

Director of Merrowvista 

 

Position Purpose 

The ​Facility Manager is a year-round working manager position responsible for the management of all facilities maintenance, custodial, and construction projects on the site and in direct coordination of all requirements of the programs of the American Youth Foundation.  

 

Essential Functions 

Working Manager of all Facilities Operations, Grounds, and Custodial 

  • Ensure the upkeep of all buildings and grounds to include standard maintenance, carpentry, painting, mowing, trimming, trail maintenance, and snow removal. 
  • Coordinate site compliance with water permits, fire inspections, and all major systems inspections. 
  • Coordinate the opening and closing of all buildings and water systems as required by program needs. 
  • Manage and maintain utility systems, including electric, phone, heating, water, and septic.  
  • Manage inventory and supplies for maintenance, grounds, and custodial functions. 
  • Serve as the key contact for program staff in response to buildings and grounds related issues and/or emergencies. 
  • Ensure the prioritization and completion of work requests. 
  • Logistics lead on opening and closing days and volunteer weekends. 
  • Oversee the routine cleaning and trash removal of all buildings according to program requirements. 
  • Oversee laundry functions according to program requirements. 


Vehicles and Equipment 

  • Manage the acquisition of and care for tools, equipment and supplies in a manner that preserves its useful life.  
  • Train appropriate staff in safe use of tools, equipment, and vehicles. 
  • Manage the maintenance and registrations of the vehicle fleet, boats, and trailers. 
  • Manage a safe, clean, organized, and inventoried maintenance facility including all workshops, equipment bays and warehouse storage areas. 

 

Supervisory and Administration 

  • Manage the facilities and maintenance budget, participating in P&L meetings. 
  • Hire, train, and supervise the seasonal facilities and custodial staff. 
  • Attend regular team meetings with the Director of Merrowvista and the Sr. Director of Infrastructure. 
  • Attend regular staff meetings. 
  • Review and submit timesheets and expense reports of facilities and custodial staff. 
  • Administer performance management reviews.  

 

Construction Project Management 

  • In conjunction with the Sr. Director of Infrastructure develop scopes of work, budgets, and schedules. 
  • Oversee on-site subcontracted projects. 
  • Establish accurate material lists and cost estimates on in-house projects. 
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of camp-based service projects.

Preferred Minimum Education, Experience and/or Certification 

  • Associate degree or equivalent experience and education required. 
  • Five years experience in buildings, grounds, and vehicle maintenance; including knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical and vehicle maintenance required. 
  • Experience supervising two or more employees. 
  • Computer literacy required (experience with Microsoft Office and CAD programs). 
  • Knowledge of custodial systems, basic building maintenance, use of tools, equipment and machines, and landscaping. 

 

Physical Demands 

  • Walk significant distances in diverse terrain.  
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and get in close spaces. 
  • Able to work at heights. 
  • Operate vehicles and several types of mechanical equipment. 
  • Work a considerable amount with one’s hands. 
  • Use general custodial equipment and cleaning materials.
