Encova Insurance has an immediate opening for a Commercial Lines Training and Quality Assurance Specialist for our Columbus, Ohio location. The preferred candidate will work a hybrid schedule but we will consider remote work for well qualified candidates who reside greater than 50 miles from our corporate office.

This role will report to the Assistant Vice President, Quality Assurance and Projects.

JOB OBJECTIVE

This role will be responsible for developing programs and materials delivering comprehensive training to support the learning and development of associate underwriters. Additionally, this role will perform quality assurance reviews of the work performed by associate underwriters and provide feedback to leadership for coaching and development.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Design, develop, and update training materials, modules, and resources tailored to the needs of associate underwriters, covering topics such as underwriting processes, system usage, policy interpretation, and customer service.
  • Consult with commercial lines leadership to analyze and identify development opportunities and appropriate solutions.
  • Conduct engaging and informative training sessions, both in-person and virtually, to new and existing associate underwriters, ensuring that they have a thorough understanding of their roles, responsibilities, and best practices.
  • Develop, maintain, coordinate, and facilitate a training program for new hires during the onboarding process, helping them acclimate to their roles and become productive members of the underwriting team.
  • Collaborate with commercial lines leadership and other stakeholders to identify opportunities for process improvement and optimization, incorporating feedback from associate underwriters to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Maintain accurate records of training activities, attendance, and performance evaluations to track the effectiveness of training initiatives and identify areas for further improvement.
  • Conduct comprehensive quality assurance audits of transaction files to evaluate compliance with quality standards, procedures, best practices, and authority thresholds.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement, using relevant tools and techniques.
  • Provide detailed feedback and recommendations based on quality assurance audits, documenting findings, and presenting them to commercial lines leadership.
  • Provide training and support to associate underwriters on quality standards, procedures, best practices and authority thresholds to ensure consistent adherence to quality guidelines.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain an ongoing understanding of commercial lines processes, procedures and systems.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Maintain positive relationships with associates and the leadership team through professional verbal and written communication.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Occasional travel including some overnight travel is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, or related field is preferred.
  • Proven experience in underwriting support or a similar role within the insurance industry, with a minimum of five years of experience.
  • Strong understanding of underwriting processes, policies, procedures and system.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey information and provide feedback to individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver training programs, preferably in a corporate or educational setting.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in using underwriting software, Guidewire system, and other relevant tools.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theories, evaluation processes, training techniques, and computer systems and equipment is desirable.
  • Certifications such as Associate in General Insurance (AINS) or Certified Insurance Service Representative (CISR) are a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and virtual meeting platforms such as Teams is required.
  • This position requires proven ability to work in a team environment, manage assigned projects and meet specified deadlines.
